PRE-TREATMENT:
CARBON TANKS
* CARBON TANKS MUST NEVER BE BYPASSED!!!! *
* Chlorine exposure to patients can cause Hemolysis which can cause serious injury or death.
* Signs and symptoms of severe Hemolysis may include:
- Chest pain and shortness of breath.
- Low blood pressure.
- Blood in the venous line may appear clear or watery (cherry soda colored).
- Localized burning and pain in the access return site.
- Irregular heartbeats.
- Patient complaint of feeling hot.
- Low blood pressure.
If a patient demonstrates signs or symptoms of Hemolysis, immediately clamp all blood lines and do not return their blood. Check Total Chlorine levels at Carbon Tanks.
