'The Dorren Series': (Oct. 2000, Sept.- Nov. 2001)

Well. Here's a series I didn't plan.

After I finished The Horns of Morning and moved on to my next stand-alone novel, I thought I wouldn't ever return to Dorren and his world. Though the characters were intriguing and I had a lot of fun writing Horns, I was interested in other stories. Besides, I had long ago decided that I was unable to return to a viewpoint character after a long time away and still write believably as that viewpoint character.

Then came a period in which, it seemed, nothing I wrote worked. I had abandoned a novel halfway through, and the pressures of work were getting to me. I tried to start another novel, and had to abandon that one as well. In desperation, I returned to Dorren and his world with Starlight at Dawn.

That book probably saved me. At least, it got me writing again. Even though it took much longer to finish than any of my Arcadian novels had for years, even though I shouted and cursed at it, even though the ending didn't turn out the way I wanted. At least it prodded me into doing what I do best again.

Whether I wrote believably as Dorren or not a second time, I don't know. There are lots of things I don't know, and maybe one of them is how long Dorren will wait. But with at least one sequel to Horns, I can't really call it a stand-alone anymore, so here you are. (All prologues and first chapters linked off this page copyright 2000-2001 by Anadrel).

The Horns of Morning- Dorren Goatleap, while preparing to become Heir to his father's and family's lands, accidentally saves another Elwen's life. This is the first in a series of discoveries that eventually puts him on the road to becoming a leader of the Morning Rebellion. Is it possible to honorably become Lord of Goatleap before his father's death?

Starlight At Dawn- Dorren's life is hardly free from problems, even though the Morning Rebellion is long past and its wounds are beginning to heal. A strange threat to his lands convinces him he has to take action, but what should that action be? Add to that Lady Eleriad's determination to make Rowan a center of art, the old pressure of a failed romance, a dancer who is also a psychic assaulter, and the turmoil of the High Ages' birth, and you've got an awful lot happening in Rowan- and Dorren's life.
