This is by no means the only corama creation myth, but it is a varient of the most commonly told. This was current among the ranime of Orrea Forest after the Coramamira War.
(Translated from the Orrean by Oriel Goatleap).
In the beginning was the Silence that permeated all things. Not only was a voice undreamed of, but even the dream of a voice was undreamed of. There was no one to dream. There was no one to listen. There was no one to hear.
Then the Goddess began to sing.
Whence the Goddess came is not for us to know. What is important is that She sang, and that is the reason the world has life. We are still Her notes, fulfilling the destinies that She intended for us. We are in Her power from birth until death, and She has achieved what She has achieved for us. She gave us the gift of life and destiny, and we repay Her by living those lives and fulfilling those destinies.
The first notes spun and sprang into being, and whirled about each other. There were thirteen notes, but for some time the Goddess did not notice the thirteenth one, being enchanted with the other twelve.
The first was Alkinos, the Lord of Dolphins. He sported in the sleeping oceans, and the sound of His voice was like the sound of the waves upon the shore would be. For love of him the Corametel took the form of a dolphin, and She bore His children. The elder children were like Her in Her true form, but green-skinned with long, flowing hair like waves. They are the tobani, the island corame. The younger children were the dolphins who still live in the oceans, the Children of Alkinos. The tobani still live in the world. They worship the Seamaiden, and they remember their ancient kinship with the dolphins, and spare them the best part of their catch.
The second note was Catchajan, the Father of Gryphons. He was master of the air, and the sound of His voice was like the sound of the wind in the night when all other things are still. For love of Him the Goddess took the form of a female gryphon, and laid eggs that hatched into His children. The elder were Her corama children, pale as wind, with silver eyes. These are the leeame, the wind corame. The younger children were gryphons in truth. The leeame dwell in the high eyries and worship the Seamaiden. They ride chiming dragons, and they remember ever to drive some birds towards the gryphons, in remembrance of their ancient siblings.
The third note was Othathalos, the Lord of Unicorns. He roamed the earth, and His song was the sound of grinding mountains and winds whispering in forests. For love of Him the Goddess became a female unicorn, and She bore His children. The elder children had skin brown as acorns and hair tingued with green. These are the ranime, the forest corame. The younger were unicorns in truth. The ranime live in the forests and worship the Goddess as Harvestlady. Still we live with, and love and respect, the unicorns who are our kin by blood.
The fourth note was Lephidor, the Father of Phoenixes. He burst into mastery of fire, and His voice was like the song of flames. For love of Him the Goddess descended into the form of a female phoenix, and laid the eggs that hatched into His children. The elder had scarlet skin and hair like burning fire, with tempers to match. These were the derme, the flame corame, but because they had such terrible tempers the Goddess hid them away, deciding to release them on the world when the time was right. The younger were true phoenixes, but gentle. The derme are now released from their prison, but they have learned much of gentleness from their phoenix kin and worship the Harvestlady. The small faction of them that insists the land Elwen known as Yubro Deerfriend was their creator are to be ignored.
