FRAGMENT

I want to live
in a two dimensional world
all shape
without the shadow
and to know
I won't get smaller
when you move
away.

Was it Rabbie Burns

Was it Rabbie Burns who said
the devil came to a witches feast
shaped like a big black dog?
Our priest
(who does not read his Burns)
had a Labrador pup, night black,
that came
bounding thro' the empty church
with muddy paws and crashed
a bowl of lilies. White.
Then lifted up
An ignorant black leg to make
its mark. And God
did not growl at the dog.

A different version of Red Ridinghood.

It was a lovely youngling, yes
covered, that dull day, in red
(showing between the trees - as food)
My young,
wearing forest brown,
are strong
(growing beyond my time to give them food)
ready for the meat
of fattened calf,
or lamb,
or she-man child
easy hunting
first-flesh-food
for them

GLASS

Foetus in a jar
of chemical - preserved
I am:
woman in the shop
wax, and frozen stiff
my window scene.
Stuck: sailing ship
rigged thro' bottle neck
can't move.
Foetus. Woman. Ship.
Held in glass and time.
The world moves on.

Bio: Robin Hillard has lived in three Australian states as well as England and Canada, and has chosen to settle in Toowoomba, which is only slightly larger than a city ought to be. She has just discovered the excitement of reading and writing on the internet, and is struggling with the intricacies of e-mail.
