The mountain is
dreary and cold, a strange energy seems to flow constantly about it. You come
across a sign that has been knocked over by the ages and wind. The half rotting
wood has a message on it. 'Curiosity Peak.' A rhyme is written beneath.
Curious
happenings, curious times
Curious mountain like these
curious rhymes
Strange things stalking, or
sleeping in their lair
Beware unwary traveler, beware
beware!
Stoneheart
Boom! The crash of thunder, ominous and
distant but defiantly drawing closer startles you and flash of lightning lights
the sky for a single moment. The dark clouds that had been gathering now block
out the sun and all the world is dark. A shiver runs through you as the
temperature drops another few degrees in expectancy of the coming story. You
tilt back your head to survey the sky and suddenly a flash of white streaks
across the sky in the distance. It grows closer and seems to lack wings and yet
it seems to twist and slither itself through the sky until it is close enough
for you to make out the more intricate details.
The white creature appears to be a small white dragon the
size of the average dog. It's sinuous body soon is hovering right above you and
for a moment a flash of lightening illuminates shocking green eyes, a long
sinewy body, and two long horns. Then the creature lets out a series of short
trills and clicks before landing behind you. Instinctively your body whirls
around to face the dragon.
"Hello,"
You say, "Who and what are you?"
The creature, to your mild surprise, answers in your own
language and not by trilling. It's voice is soft and lilting. "Greetings,
stranger. You seem to be standing on top of a mountain in a storm. This isn't
exactly advisable if you wish to maintain your health."
"I was just going to seek shelter." You protest.
"As was I." The creature replies. "But in
light of proper manners you may call me Hatsugoori, which is the first ice of
winter. I am Keizo Flit and if I am not mistaken, you are a human."
"Uh, yes, I am." You say and introduce yourself
accordingly.
"Well, then," Hatsugoori says in a matter of fact
sort of way. "I would love to talk but being struck by lightening wasn't on
my to-do list today." A roll of thunder accents his statement.
"Oh yeah." You say stupidly. "I guess, I'd
better go."
"As should I." The Keizo smiles faintly at you.
"Good day, traveler."
And with those words he launches himself into the sky once
again. Tiny drops of rain begin to beat upon your head even as his form
disappears into the turmoil that was once a blue sky.
You look around, a single tiny path leads
up though that doesn't sound like the
best choice. Another
goes around the side of the mountain and slightly upwards. A dirt trail leads
away and to the south
where Hatsugoori has flown. There is also a tiny cave
a little to your left.
