The band (which included members of the Backstreet Band: Guy Walker, Tommy Smith, and Louie Vigilante) played a familiar tune, Santana's Smooth. Howie was spotted on the extreme side of the stage but was hidden from the majority of the audience. As the song continued a spotlight was directed towards the balcony and Howie appeared singing Smooth. He descended the stairs amidst the screams of all the fans, which included many members of the Mature Fan Club.
