After JC had unpacked his things he went into town and found a small little cafe to have dinner at. He planned on getting some groceries on the way home, but the store was closed. He would have to make that trip tomorrow. He returned home around 10:00 that night, however he was anything but tired. He decided to take a walk. He looked around and realized there was only one other house near his. 'At least the beach won't be crowded,' he thought, smiling. Slipping his shoes and socks off and setting them in the porch, he walked onto the sand. The soft grains felt cool and soothing against his feet. He slowly walked toward the other house near him watching the way the moon reflected on the water. As the neighboring house came into full view he saw that it was almost identical to the one he was staying in. Remembering the person he rented it from saying that had more than one house, he figured that house must be owned by the same people he rented from.
"Beautiful night, isn't it?" he heard. Looking around he suddenly realized there was a figure standing on the porch of the other house.
"Sure is," he said trying to see the woman better. She opened the screen door and walked down the beach toward him.
"You live around here?" she asked, smiling as she approached him.
"Nope, just here for the summer," JC answered, finally able to see her. She wore a pale pink ankle length wrap around skirt that was gently blowing from the ocean breeze. Her sleeveless white cotton shirt complemented her round breasts. JC nodded subconsciously in approval. His eyes then ventured to her face, where she was desperately trying to brush her long brown hair from covering her deep blue eyes.
"Me too. I'm Karis Micheals." She smile and extended her hand.
"Josh Chasez. You can call me JC, though." JC returned the smile, gently shaking her hand.
"Nice to meet you. We'll have to get together sometime. I just got into town today, but the vast population of Milford seems to be over the age of 40, and I was afraid I would spend the summer schmoozing with them," Karis laughed lightly. JC smiled, feeling completely at ease with this stranger.
"Well, then, of course we will. I'm staying right next door," he said, gesturing toward his house.
"Wonderful! It's been nice chatting, but I was in the middle of this wonderful book and I'm dying to get back to it, so I will see you later," she asked, more as a question.
"I will be looking forward to it," JC smiled, watching her as she walked back up to the house and sat down on the porch again, picking up her book.
"You certainly did pick a good spot to spend your summer, Chasez. Well done," JC said, smiling to himself as he turned around and headed back to his house.
It was a few days later when JC saw Karis again. He was setting up his things on the beach when he heard someone calling his name. Turning around he saw her walking toward him, waving.
"Hello, nice to see you again," JC smiled as she came up to him.
"You, too. Spending the day at the beach?" she asked, looking at his things.
"Good guess. I figure I need a little sun; I'm starting to look like the dough boy," JC grinned.
"Nah, maybe after he's baked," Karis smiled.
"Thanks...I think. So how about you? What are you doing?" he asked.
"Same thing as you, just don't have all that stuff," she laughed.
"Well then care to join me? I would love some company," JC offered.
Karis glanced around and shrugged her shoulders, "Why not? There's no one else around really." She smiled.
"Great, I can run up and get you a chair if you'd like," JC said.
"Sure, that'd be great," Karis nodded.
"Okay then, I'll be right back with one chair," JC smiled, jogging back up to the house. He returned a few minutes later with a chair like the one he had for Karis.
"Thank ya sir," she smiled, taking the chair from him. JC watched closely as she slipped the shirt she was wearing over her head, revealing a plain black one piece suit. As she began to apply some sunscreen she noticed JC watching her. "What?" she asked, laughing.
"Huh...oh, um...I was just wondering if I could borrow some of that. I forgot mine in the house," JC said quickly.
"Sure, no problem," Karis laughed and handed JC the bottle of sunscreen. She settled back into her chair and let the sun do its work. JC smiled, thinking to himself 'if the rest of this vacation goes similar to this, its gonna be a great summer.'
"Man, I'm burning up," Karis announced a little while later. "I'm gonna take a dip in the water," she smiled over at JC before getting up from her seat.
JC watched as she walked toward the water and slowly waded in. "How is it?" he yelled.
"Cold, but refreshing," she called back. JC thought for a moment then decided to go join her. He walked down and stepped into the water, taken aback at how cold it was.
"Come on, ya just gotta jump right in and get used to it," Karis laughed from where she was swimming around.
"Easy for you to say. This water is freezing," he said.
"It's not that bad. Come on, just get right in," she smiled, splashing some water in his direction.
"Hey, that's freezing," JC yelled jumping back onto the warm sand. Karis shook her head and laughed, swimming farther out. JC once again slowly got into the water this time making it farther out. He was about waist deep when suddenly a pair of hands grabbed him pulling him under. When he surfaced again, he came face to face with a laughing Karis.
"That wasn't funny," he said trying not to smile.
"Yeah, it was. Admit it," she laughed, swimming away from him.
"Oh, no ya don't," JC mumbled, swimming after her forgetting about how cold the water was.
