~ Chapter Seven ~

When JC woke up the next morning, he was surprised not to see the sun shining. Instead, he was greeted with an overcast sky, and figured it would be raining most of the day.

"What the hell am I gonna do now," he mumbled, getting out of bed. Making his way into the kitchen, he watched as a bolt of lighting zig-zagged across the sky over the water. Not long after the lighting, the rain began to beat down on the cabin.

"Looks like I'm staying inside," he said, answering his previous question.

He was fixing some toast when the phone in the kitchen rang.

"Hey, wacha up to today?" Karis' voice came from the other line.

"Nothing much, not exactly a beach friendly day out there," JC laughed.

"Certainly not, I've got cards and Monopoly if you want to make a game day out of it?" she said.

"That sounds like fun, well, as much fun as you can have on a rainy day. So, my place or yours?" he asked.

"Um, yours? Mine's a huge mess; I've got clothes everywhere and . . ." she said.

"Ok, my house is fine, come over whenever you want," JC laughed.

"Ok, gotta get dressed and stuff, then I'll be over. See ya in a little while," Karis said, hanging up the phone. JC sighed with relief after he hung up. After that small kiss last night, he was worried things were going to be awkward between them, but he had not regretted it one bit. He was falling hard for her, and he didn't like not having control over his emotions.

Coming out of his thoughts he realized he should get in the shower before Karis came over. JC quickly finished his glass of orange juice and then headed back to the bathroom.

He stepped out of the shower stall and grabbed the towel on the nearby counter. He was drying off when he heard a faint 'Hello' come through the house. "Hey Kar, I'll be out in a sec. I'm just drying off," he called, sticking his head out of the bathroom.

Karis peeked down the hall and smiled, "Ok, just came in cause it's a little chilly out there with the rain." JC nodded and went back into the bathroom. A few minutes later he had on a pair of clean jeans and a sweat shirt.

"Ok, I'm here sorry about that," he smiled, walking in. Karis looked up and noticed his hair was still wet from the shower. She also noticed he had left the stubble on his chin.

"Forgot your razor, I see," she joked.

JC laughed and subconsciously rubbed the hair on his face. "It keeps me warm," he grinned.

"Interesting, I've never thought of it like that," Karis laughed. "Well, I brought over cards and Monopoly like I said, and I also brought my collection of the Chevy Chase Vacation movies, 'cause I love those," she explained, gesturing to the items on the table.

"Well, you obviously came prepared for a day like this. Me, I just figured it would be sunny all the time like it is in Florida, but Milford has proved me wrong," JC laughed.

"One thing I've learned about living in New England is be prepared for anything, and I mean anything!" Karis smiled.

"Great, so you hungry, thirsty, anything?" JC asked.

"Um, you wouldn't have any beer would ya?" she asked.

"Actually, I do have some. Bud Light ok?" he asked.

"Fine," she answered. JC got up and went into the kitchen. He took two beers out of the refrigerator and brought them back into the living room.

"Thanks, so what first?" Karis asked taking the bottle from him.

"Hmm . . . how about a rousing game of Monopoly?" JC suggested.

"My personal favorite. Look out, boy, I'm the Monopoly queen," Karis proclaimed, taking the board out of the box.

"Well, your reign will be over with today, because I'm awesome and undefeated at Monopoly," JC smiled, sitting across from her at the table.

"That's Pacific Avenue with a hotel, I believe you owe me $2500, Chasez. Pay up," Karis grinned, holding out her hand.

"Ok, one sec, I'm gonna have to mortgage a few things," JC said, looking over his properties.

"All you have left is Baltic, and that won't get you much. Sorry, Charlie, I think you lost and my reign continues on," Karis yelled, throwing her hands up in victory. JC grumbled a response, getting up and walking to the kitchen. Karis laughed as she followed him in. "Don't be mad; I'm just really good."

"Yeah, well, I want a rematch. Not today, but sometime I have to beat you," JC grinned as he grabbed an apple from the refridge and tossed her one.

"Well, if you insist on getting beat again I suppose . . . can I have another beer?" she asked, pointing to the refridge.

"Sure," JC said. Karis opened the door and grabbed two bottles and handed one to JC. "So, what now?" he asked, throwing the bottle back and taking a swig.

"Um, we can watch the movies if you want, not really in the mood for cards right after Monopoly," she smiled.

"Sounds good to me, might as well do it anyway before the power goes out," JC laughed, looking outside as another bolt of lighting eluminated the sky.

"Very true, come on, let's go," Karis smiled, biting into the apple and walking back into the kitchen. JC followed her watching the way she walked. Gosh, he liked everything about this woman. Why in the world was he drawn to her so much?

"So, might as well start with the first Vacation and work are way through 'em in order, huh?" she asked, pulling JC from his thoughts.

"That would seem right to me," JC laughed. Karis grinned and pulled the tape from its case. She put it in the VCR and pressed play.

"Mind if I sit next to you?" she asked, looking at the spot next to him on the couch.

"Of course not, please do," JC smiled and patted the spot. Karis plopped down next to him and watched as the opening credits came on, signaling the start of the movie.
