It goes without saying that many of the inhabitants of Planet Pop have a seriously cuddly quality. But there are surely none so huggable than the wee blond bombshell who recently blasted into the charts and won our hearts. All hail Aaron Carter - ten-year old bro of Mr Gorgeous himself, Nick Carter, and all-round crazy, fun-loving monster.
But while he may be cute and funny, trying to pin down the spirited scamp for an interview is like trying to outrun a cheetah with concrete trainers on. Smash Hits is having none of it, though. Our initial motherly feelings have flown out the window, we settle down in his swanky hotel room to get serious answers to the question on everyone's lips: 'What's it like being the youngest kid in pop?'
"It's cool!" he grins. "And it's good that there are other young pop stars like Hanson so it doesn't seem so wierd. I'd like to meet them - we could talk about being young and stuff."
So what's he enjoying most about being a pop star? He screws up his face and shakes his golden locks. "Well, I get to travel to loads of different countries and meet other pop stars. And also I get to perform. I love to perform - it's wild!"
But surely he gets nervous performing in front of thousands of screaming girls?
"No, I love it!" he laughs, rolling off his bed and onto the floor, where he proceeds to kick his legs in teh air in a hip hop stylee. "I get a little bit nervous before I go on stage, but Nick's given me good advice on how to deal with being scared, so I'm usually OK."
A-ha! So are he and Nick close?
"Yeah, Nick and I are real close - he's my best friend. We argue sometimes, of course, but we are brothers! The worst thing is that when we row I get annoyed and try to hit him, but he just laughs at me and I get even more annoyed. That doesn't happen all the time, though - mostly, we just play together and he buys me toys and stuff. He's cool!"
Just as Smash Hits are about to ask another question, Aaron's attention span fades and he jumps to his feet, launching himself onto the bed. "This is fun!" he laughs.
Er, we're glad you're enjoying yourself, Aaron, but there's an interview to be done!
"Oh yeah... OK, next question!" he grins cheekily.
Right, so now you're famous, do you still behave yourself?
"Oh sure!" he says sweetly. But before he can finish his answer, his Mum (who goes everywhere with 'ickle A) cuts in.
"He can be a real handful! He can be good, but he can also be real naught," she says, rolling her eyes. "He's always running away from his bodyguard. He doesn't understand that it's dangerous for him to do that!"
Aaron looks a bit shady and then begins leaping around the bed. Next, he dives off and performs a commando-style roll in an attempt to squeeze himself into the tiny space under the bed. However, realising not even he is that 'ickle, Aaron settles for lying spread-eagled on the carpet and clapping his hands. Time for the Hits to attempt another quesiton.
So, Aaron, do you ever get bored of being a pop star?
"Nope!" he replies, mid-clap. "I sometimes get a bit tired when I have to travel loads, but I never get tired of singing. I've always wanted to be a pop star!"
And with one more question succesfully answered, he decides it is time for more fun. So he gets to his feet and , to everyon's horror, begins throwing himself against the wall!
"It's OK, I won't hurt myself!" he laughs, flinging himself to the floor.
"Oh, he does that all the time!" his Mum says, shaking her head, "He falls down the stairs, trips over and runs into walls. I don't understand how he never hurts himself - he's such a worry!"
Too right. The Hits have only been in the room 20 minutes and are already resisting the urge to fit him with some toddler reins.
But despite being bonkers, Aaron is also one of the politest young chaps you could ever wish to meet. Does he ever feel the urge to run rampant and throw pop star tantrums?
"Well, I have thought about it!" he grins, cheekily looking across the room to where his entourage are sitting. "But I know my Mum wouldn't let me get away with it!"
