Keys teen puts on 2nd show to benefit Grace Jones center

A bit of the big-city atmosphere hits the small-town Keys when teen singer Aaron Carter wraps up his 30-city Rock, Rap 'n' Retro Tour in his hometown of Marathon today.

Often referred to as the Prince of Pop, Carter, 14, will take the stage at the Florida Keys Marathon Airport east field at 8 p.m., following an opening performance by local musician Jen.

The gates open at 6 p.m., and the concert will feature tunes from Carter's latest album, "Another Earthquake," released Sept. 2, as well as such top-40 tunes as "Crazy Little Party Girl" and "Shake It."

Funds raised from ticket sales benefit the Grace Jones Community Center in Marathon. Carter performed a similar benefit concert for about 2,000 people last year Dec. 8 for the day-care center. People from as far away as Canada attended.

Carter, the younger brother to Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, has toured America and Europe, served as the opening act for the Backstreet Boys as well as Britney Spears and appeared in Broadway's "Seussical the Musical." After launching his musical career at age 7, he saw two of his albums achieve gold and platinum sales abroad. Last year, Rolling Stone magazine featured the young singer as 54th among its list of Hot 100 artists.

Marathon concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets for seating on the green. Food and beverages will be available for sale; alcoholic beverages, coolers and cameras are prohibited.

Admission is $20 and available at the gate beginning at 6 p.m.
