AARON & ANGEL

PopStar! takes The Carter Twins to Parrot Cay and they spill all their secrets!

IDENTICAL TWINS?

It's kinda hot. But that's okay--after all, it's summer. And we're also in the Caribbean. And oh, yeah--Aaron Carter is nearby!

There is no screaming girls, no autograph seekers and no tickets to sell. Aaron Carter, 14-year-old superstar, is hanging out at the luxury resort Parrot Cay in the Turks & Caicos islands just for fun. Well, he's also here--along with mom Jane, dad Bob and his twin sister Angel--to spend some time giving PopStar! readers his best-ever exclusive poses and tons of info about his life, his family and latest CD.

Aaron has grown up before our very eyes since we first interviewed him over two years ago, but in person, he is still very much a kid. This time around, he's hanging in a swanky beach house the time we lay eyes on him, reading the latest issue of PopStar! that we brought him. It's only noon (we're spared them an early wake-up call), but even though we'll shoot for another eight hours, he's already itching to get into the water.

"I'm definitely going into the water today," he says aloud, as if to convince himself. We all nod but secretly wonder if there will be time before the sun goes down--after all, for our readers, we're determined to take as many cool pictures as we can. We would end up with over 1,300 to sift through and Aaron--kid, yes, but mature professional, too?would wind up inventing many of the positions, suggesting imaginative set-ups and finishing it all in time for a late-day dip.

But along with Aaron, we have another Carter to consider, star-in-the-making Angel. Ardent Aaronphiles know very well that he has a twin sister, and many fans at Aaron's concerts have circulated reports of bumping into her and discovering her to be a gracious and fan-friendly supporter of her bro. They are shocked--as we are--to find that Angel looks more like her sister Leslie than like her own twin!

As Aaron romps around the beach house, excitedly plays us music from his brand new Jive CD Another Earthquake (it's incredible! it's rock! his new nickname is Rock Guy!)) and eventually grabs some rays before a long day of shooting, Angel hangs in the background a little. She's described herself as shy, but really she's more of an observer, whereas Aaron is a performer.

But Angel will move her observer to observed when she launches her career--she's about to became a model and has sighed a big deal that will put her very much in the public eye for the first time.

Seeing the twins together, you might be temped to consider them day and night, especially as cute blond Aaron clowns and beautiful brunette Angel looks on with suppresses amusement. But spend quality time with them--like PopStar! is--and you realize they are like two peas in a pod. After a while, it almost feels like they have their own silent communication going on under everyone's radar, like they're both aware of what the other is doing at all times...and each is secretly smiling at it.

TEAMWORK IN PARADISE

The resort we're at is unbelievable. The island are sparsely populated, flat and tropical, and to get to Parrot Cay, we have to take a private boat. Once there, the grounds make you think you're on Fantasy Island, and there are few fantasies unfulfilled--you can relax on the seamless white-sand beach, wade in the turquoise ocean, take a dip in the pool, sign up for some massages (like Aaron did on his last night there) or even work out at the top-notch gym. The main reason people go to Parrot Cay (along with Aaron, we saw one of our favorite TV and movie stars while we were there!) is to get away from it all and to be pampered, and that's something Aaron Carter needs just before his relentless summer Rock, Rap & Retro Tour. The tour will eventually hit dozens of markets, setting up Another Earthquake as a third-quarter hit.

After shooting around the posh Parrot Cay villa the Carters are holed up in, we manage to snag a fantastic boat to cruise around in, all the while snapping pictures of Aaron, Angel and Aaron & Angel. They pose entwined like the best buddies they are, and neither of them looks quite as happy solo as they do together.

Angel, once she opens up, reveals herself to be supersmart with a wit as sharp as a tack. Aaron playfully bullies her physically--at one point, as she's hanging off the edge of the boat, Aaron sneaks around the other side and nearly scares her overboard!--but Angel uses words to needle her brother.

"Hey, Mr. Superstar," she teases him, "you're just another dumb blond!" We figure this is a routine nickname for Aaron, one he laughs at and yet one that will lead to more roughhousing later.

But our favorite Angel quote comes as they make disappear some colorful drinks (non-alcoholic, duh) at the breezy bar. Overhearing our staff discussions about titles for the article ("Aaron Carter's Secret Twin" is nixed), she says with confidence, "Just remember one thing--Aaron is my twin." She explains that she was born first, and Aaron followed a minute later. As she says this, Aaron's expression is boyishly wide-eyed--because he's concentrating on slurping down his second fruity drink in a row--but it suddenly makes sense why he looks like her younger brother...he is!

In the area of handling press, however, Aaron becomes the confident one and takes control, jumping up to show Angel which poses he thinks will flatter her and which will be the best for a teen magazine. He sometimes does them himself first for her to then copy, or he'll even move her hands or head to where he wants them. Angel is doing great on her own (watch out, Amber Valletta!), but she accepts her brother's advice--she seems very easy-going, especially when it comes to The Blond One.

AN AARON ADVENTURE

When we return from our sun-soaked sea voyage, Aaron darts over some dangerous-looking rocks by the shore that later turn out to be dozens of enormous sea shells and without hesitation leaps several feet out onto a lone wooden post, a remnant of an old dock. At the bottom, the post is all eaten away by the sea, and it sure is crooked--but Aaron maneuvers himself on it like a pelican, never fearing a rude splashdown.

Aaron's mom later confirms he's a complete daredevil in all that he does. Long after Aaron has returned from a trip on a catamaran with our photographer. she tells us he only learned how to steer one this morning. Our shutterbug says that when they were so far out we could barely see them, he asked Aaron how they were going to get back and Aaron's reply was an unconcerned, "I don't know." Fearless this kid is, but that must help him face all you crazy fans at all of his concerts and at his packed meet-and-greets.

After freshening up back at the villa, we pile the twins into some PopStar! gear (all of which we later give them as a gift) and also some Planet Hollywood goodies (most of which we give them, though we save one of Aaron's T-shirts to give away), before hopping into one if the resort's handy-dandy golf carts for a ride across the grounds. As we drive, Aaron--who can drive one of these things since his family uses them to get around their huge Marathon, FL, property--jumps off and runs along side us, doing artistic leaps that suggest he could have been a ballet star. Angel laughs as her stunning long hair whips in the wind--when we tell her that we think it's beautiful, she confesses it's her favorite part of her body, the one part she would never want to change.

Posing on the scenic grounds, the kids loosen up and have a blast in the stifling heat. Born and raised in sunshine and around water, the temperature is normal for them...

SAND CASTLES & SUNSETS

...Did we say...water?

Without further delay, we head back to the villa to let them suit up for a late afternoon on their private beach. They both seem re-energized by the sand and by splashing in the water, something we keep to a minimum until the end. Digging a hole ("Aaron, are you going to let me bury you later?" Angel asks) or making a sand castle, they work in synch (to coin a phrase) and enjoy getting messy after making sure all day to look just perfect.

We follow them right out into the water for some of our best shots, including a few wild moments on the runaway catamaran. When he returns with it, he's left to manage it. Dragging it up on the beach as we focus for a few on Angel, he grumbles, "I could use a hand here, guys..." But we let Angel have her moment and giggle as little Aaron (eventually, successfully) pulls the enormous catamaran ashore and then hops back into the shot.

It's really getting late now...and yet we're greedily going for one last outfit!

Angel is curled up on the sofa back at the house, but Aaron is sprinting to the beach in his last look of the day after we're dragged him out of the villa's private pool. As the sun goes down, as it's rust-orange rays fade to black, Aaron squeezes out his last few expressions, carefully keeping his designer pants away from the water's edge. The mixed movements make for some comical moments, and then the last frame is snapped and we call out, "That's a wrap!"

Aaron Carter takes off so quickly you almost expect to see a Road Runner-style puff of smoke over the dunes.

"Thanks, guys! See ya later!"

We hope it will be sooner rather then later. Where to next time, Aaron & Angel? Hawaii? France? Aruba...?
