Chapter 5

"Ok", Bridget said, standing outside.
The guys looked at one another not believing what was going on, or what was about to happen. JC got out of the car, turned to the driver, and said not to wait and that he'd just grab a cab later on. Justin, Joey, Lance and Chris said goodbye to Bridget and JC one more time and the car drove away leaving JC and Bridget along on the sidewalk.
"Nice night, huh" JC said awkwardly.
"Yeah, it was" Bridget answered lightly "It could've been nicer if you had talk a little"!
"I talked" JC answered. He knew what she was getting at. He had been distant at dinner. Did he really expect her of all people not to notice that?
"Yeah, maybe two words and they certainly weren't toward me!" Bridget said, not really angry at him, but wondering why he didn't talk to her.
"Bridget - what do you want from me? All I do is apologize to you!" JC yelled.
"Funny, I think I deserve an apology for tonight" Bridget yelled back.
JC just looked at her. Even angry, she was beautiful.
"JC"! Bridget yelled, snapping him out of his reoccurring daze.
"JC"? JC yelled back. "What happened to Josh"?
Bridget sighed. "Josh, I can't do this anymore."
"Do what?" JC asked. "Be my friend?"
Bridget just looked at him. "No. Yes. I mean..." Bridget stammered.
"Uh, which is it Bridge?" JC asked, stunned by Bridget's attitude.
"Josh, can we just say goodbye here and not see each other for another two years?" Bridget suggested.
JC stood there, still stunned. "Is that really what you want?" he asked.
"Yeah, that's what I want," said Bridget, her tears catching in her throat.
"Alright then," JC said. "Bye Bridge."
As JC turned away and walked down the lonely street, a tear slid down Bridget's face. Of course this isn't what she wanted. But crossing that friendship line was too difficult.
JC walked away from Bridget not knowing what to think, not knowing what to do. 'Damn it' he said to himself 'how can I let her get away again'.
Bridget watched JC walk away. She sighed. As she headed up the steps to her door she heard --
"Bridget!" JC screamed, running toward her.
Bridget turned, backed away from the door and started to come down the steps. JC met her halfway. JC and Bridget now stood face to face looking right into each other's eyes.
"So... what about what I want?" JC asked.
Bridget looked down and then right into his eyes. "Ok Josh, what do you want?" Bridget asked quietly.
"I want you!" JC answered. "It's always been you. I can't eat, I can't sleep. I haven't been able to think of anything or anyone since you! I need you Bridge."
Bridget couldn't speak; tears were steadily streaming down her face, while she couldn't help but smile.
"Bridge? Come on Bridge - say something - you're killin' me here" JC pleaded.
"I guess there's only one thing to say to you right now" Bridget said frankly.
JC took his eyes away from Bridget, half of him not wanting to hear her answer. Bridget's hand touched JC's cheek, forcing him to look her in the eye.
"Josh - I love you" Bridget confessed. "I've been in love with you for two years!"
At first, JC just stood there a little stunned. Then all that was left to do was done. JC gently lifted Bridget's chin for a soft, long awaited kiss.
