Chapter 2

She couldn’t have been more than 16. In her black and blue T-shirt she’d just purchased and put on for the concert, black and blue cap, and black and blue painted nails and glow stick she was obviously a FAN.

“How’d you get back here?” Nick tried to ask gently. He and the others could read Kevin like a kindergarten book, and it was obvious he was unhappy with the young woman’s sudden appearance.

“I’m sorry. I know you won’t believe me but I was looking for the bathrooms. I have a pass for the after concert Meet & Greet, but I got the directions wrong that the security guy gave me. I’m really sorry.” She seemed truly upset.

“Well the restrooms are...” Howie started but she didn’t let him finish.

“I have a friend who just got a house near the beach. It’s huge. Six bedrooms 5 ½ bathrooms, pool, whirlpool, and sauna. She had it built to her specifications. “

“That sounds nice, really but...” Brian tried to stop the young woman, but she wasn’t having it.

“The back of the house goes out to the beach and the location makes entry to that part of the beach private. She’s got the area walled in with trees. It’s beautiful. She can sit out on her back porch and sunbathe nude and no one would be the wiser. Is that the kind of privacy you would be interested in, Kevin?”

“Actually it sounds great, and I really appreciate your telling us this, but…” She wouldn’t let Kevin finish.

“She’s single and has her own money. That’s how she got the house built the way she wanted it. She’s…”

“Can I ask you a question?” AJ was practically laughing at the young woman who, apparently, had figured out a solution to their problem and was determined to let them know.

“Sure”

“Who are you? What’s your name?”

“OH! I’m Sorry. I’m Jessie…Jessica Weeks. The woman I’m talking about is….”

“Jessie!! Where are you??!!”

“Screaming for me at the top of her lungs” Jessie finished meekly.

“Jessica Maureen, I asked you to please not get turned around. The last thing I need is your mom trying to kill me. She’s already annoyed that the concert is on a school night and now you go and start talking to…” she finally noticed who Jessie was talking to.

“Mercy” was all the woman could say. Brian was the first to introduce himself and the others followed. Kevin was last and he only offered his hand after Howie nudged him.

“I’m sorry. Hi I’m Kevin. Jessie was just telling us about your house. She told us you were single, but didn’t mention your name.” He smiled at her. His need to disappear was almost forgotten as he looked into the biggest brown eyes he’d ever seen.

Irene Williams was beautiful. She was almost a foot shorter than Kevin, but at 5’4” she was perfect. Big brown eyes and a full mouth that he had a sudden desire to kiss. Her skin reminded him of his crayons…she was brown, not light brown, not dark brown, not honey colored, just brown. But she was a smooth brown and he liked it.

“This is my Aunt Irene. Aunt Irene, these are the Backstreet Boys” Jessie was quite pleased with herself.

“Really, Jessie. And here I thought there were five OTHER guys singing on stage tonight.” Irene smiled at her niece. “Now please explain why you would bother these gentlemen with details about my house and don’t tell me that you didn’t give them details, I know you.”

“Well actually...”

“You see…”

“What happened was..”

The four men attempted to tell Irene what happened, but Kevin silenced everyone.

“Enough!” Kevin sighed. “Irene, your niece caught us in the middle of me attempting to get some down time. I was trying to leave…just go away for a while. Jessica was nice enough to offer you home as a hideaway for a while.”

“Oh I see.”

“It’s obviously not meant for me to do this and as I think about, it’s a very stupid thing to do. We’ll be done in a few days so I should just chill out until then.” Kevin didn’t even hear how tired he sounded. Irene saw it in his eyes..."What beautiful eyes..." She thought

“I assume that this little clandestine meeting is something your management has no knowledge of, right?”

“Right”

“And these guys wouldn’t tell where you were, would they?”

“No we wouldn’t do that. We just want him to be safe wherever he is” Brian answered. “Why do you ask?”

Irene sighed thoughtfully. “Well, I’m not a big fan of the media. They couldn’t get past the guard at the front and quite frankly they couldn’t get on the back of the property without a boat. They wouldn’t actually be able to get off the boat with me shooting at them, anyway.” She smiled. “Look I tell you what. I’ll give you my address. I assume you limo drivers are from the area?

“Yes, we always get local guys.” Nick answered

“Great. They shouldn’t have problem finding the place. I’ll leave your names with the guard and he’ll let you through. You come by, see the place, and if you like it, you’re welcome to stay. If you don’t, I’m sure we can find someone to help with your desire to disappear. How’s that sound.”

Kevin couldn’t believe it. He felt a weight lifting off his chest.

Wow what a smile, Irene thought.

“Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to impose.” Kevin didn’t want to get excited in case Irene realized how “aggressive” Backstreet fans were. They would find him in the densest part of the Amazon jungle if he hid there. He just wanted a little bit of breathing room. Was he really going to get it?

“Yes. It’s no problem. I’m sure Jessica told you the place is huge. Trust me, you could stay with me for a month and we may never see each other!”
