THE SHADOW'S REVOLT

I have heard many people saying they would like to be a shadow. But they only imagine themselves as being the shadow of some person they have once loved and to whom they wanted to remain close. They have never thought that the existence of a shadow is not being the shadow of only one person, but to be divided among the shadows of all people… and how could one wish something like this? How could one wish to be forced to follow, not only a child going to school or a couple of lovers walking through the park, but also steps which go to places where they know they will betray or hurt someone… the steps of all those who steal, cheat and kill… so many that even a shadow would end up overwhelmed with despair and disgust?…

People should have their own light. They should be able to spread around as much light as they have inside, as much beauty and good as there is in their soul. Everything would be so simple.. they would themselves light their own path and own existence without needing illumination from outside, although they may still need the sun for its heat. And if it were so, those who are disgusting even to the shadow and who would rather stumble into the darkness would be forced to change something. They would probably look for the light of others and perhaps the need of others will be a good start to discover their own inner light. But finally all people would have their own light, weaker or stronger, that they would use. And those bearing a weaker light would inevitably wish to become more luminous so they will have no other probability than to be better.

I know what you will say : that if it is so, I would not exist anymore either, since people would not have (a need for) shadows. Indeed, I would not exist as a shadow anymore. But perhaps I would become something bigger and higher… as for example, I would be born again as a human being, through a wonderful cosmic effort. I would give up the infinite life of all the world’s shadows for the limited existence of a single human being… but this one will be born carrying with him, in order to give to others, all the light, good and beauty that I have gathered from people in my existence of shadow.

Would that be the solution?... or would it be only one more proof that those who have too much good, beauty and light to give to others, remain always alone?
