TEDDYBEAR CHRISTMAS

Artwork by Adela Serban

The Christmas night, all toys left, happy in the hands of the children that had got them as a present. The soldier was now guarding the room, the bunny was enjoying the heat of the fire, the doll was sleeping wrapped in silk sheets… Only the teddybear has been left under the tree, together with the songless guitar.
The lights of the Christmas tree had been switched off long time ago and the brightness of the outside snow was too weak for the tears of the unwanted teddybear to be seen in the dark room.
He had been waiting for this Christmas for so long ! He had dreamed that someone would love him and take him in their arms... he had dreamed that someone would take him home and he would reward them by bringing every day the morning smile on their lips.
But the magic hour was gone leaving him behind and he was now watching, his head against the silent chords, the snowfall outside, hugging himself to warm up and softly singing a lullaby in order to sleep and forget that his soul could live only one, magic night, unless love would have come this way to bring him to life.
And the teary eyes were watching through the window, in the loveless night, the soul of bright star flying high to the skies, with the angels.

In the morning, the children have found with amazement the teddybear forgotten under the Christmas tree, with bright glass eyes and arms reaching out to them. They were wondering how come they had not seen him one night before and, moreover, they could not understand why his chest was wet of something warm, as he had been crying.
They could not know that the star of light who had given him life in order to wait for love was never going to return and there was nobody to tell them that a whole world dies in the teddybears’ eyes when they are forgotten alone under the firtree in the Christmas night
