GLASGOW BULLS 20 v 28 PORTOBELLO PLAYBOYS

The 2000 champions slumped to another defeat despite leading 12-0 until just before half-time against the determined and relentless Edinburgh men.

Chris Sheridan started the scoring in the 7th minute when a dash down the field by Barry Edgar left the defenders trailing before he offloaded for experienced student international Sheridan to touch down on the right wing.  Edgar completed the conversion with a masterful kick.

It was to be over 20 minutes before the next score as both teams defended the other¹s attacking moves with poor handling in the muddy conditions thwarting scoring chances for both sides.

Eventually Glasgow's pressure paid off - after a sustained pressure of pressure prop John Thompson grabbed a loose ball on the Porty line and flopped over just to the left of the post.

Portobello then had two chances in quick succession to get some points on the board - a move down the right wing was only stopped by a magnificent tackle by full-back Stewart Naismith.  Dave Hardy¹s drive down the left shortly thereafter was stopped just short of the line as he lost the ball in the tackle.

With three minutes before half-time Porty moved the ball moved the ball smartly across the field for Craig Little to score in the corner.

With one minute left Dave Hardy broke straight through the middle of the pitch and offloaded the ball to Andy Bushell.  Hardy converted to send his team in only 12-10 down.

HT - 12-10

The Portobello revival continued one minute into the second half - Lee Parkes broke off the back of the scrum and walked in at the right-hand corner.  There was no conversion but Glasgow¹s chances were hampered when scrum-halt Matt Small came off injured.

In the 46th minute Porty and lee Parkes scored again when Dave Hardy's work again made put Glasgow on the back foot in defence - the ball was then zipped out through three sets of hands for the winger Parkes to finish off.

Two minutes later Porty got a double strike - Andy Bushell going over in the 57th as Dave hardy chipped a ball in behind the Bulls defence.  hardy himself scored the try of the match as he set off on a mazy run from the half-way line which he crown with the four points.

Glasgow came back in the final ten minutes with some marvellous work - David Jamieson and Howard Cameron started a series of drives that enabled Barry Edgar to score in the right-hand corner.  With four minutes left Cameron again did the donkey work and set up Kenny Loakman to bring Glasgow to within eight points of the visitors.

In Pool B, Fife Lions beat Clyde 44-0 with tries from Steven Lawrie (3, man-of-the-match),  Willer Steyback, David Wood, Richard Triffett, Murray Forbes and Andy Gibb.
