DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2001 2. Coach Education Coach Education during 2001 was not a great success, mainly due to finance. However we were able to run a Modified games course, in May, which qualified eleven more coaches of which five have been active in the school curriculum and after school clubs. 2002 will be a totally different scenario after the formation of the Glasgow and District Rugby League Service Area (G.D.S.A), which managed to secure funding from Sportscotland’s Awards For All for the sum of £4,600. The money will be used to fund two Club Coach courses, the first being the end of January, and two Modified Games courses, dates to be set. The first Club Coach course, in January, is already full with twenty candidates many of which are new to the game. On successful completion of the course all the candidates have agreed to assist with the running of the after schools clubs and leagues and some will also become involved with the delivery of the curriculum programme. The staff from BOSCO Juniors will be on the Club Coach course planned for April, which will be funded by the £500 Glasgow City Council Grant Aid.3. Junior Club Development A side from the after school clubs three possible venues have been identified in the Pollock and Nitshill area which could host Junior clubs. To that end the plan for next year is to follow up the venues and identify volunteers, Parents and existing Coaches, to form committees and develop each club to become self-sustaining and part of the community. As previously mentioned a facility has already been identified in Easterhouse however Castlemilk is proving a little more difficult with the lack of grass parks available.4. Summary The first year in Glasgow has proved very successful with the majority of the South of the city now involved in one way or another and parts of the East now getting started in the game. 2002 will see a total expansion in the full participation side with more after school clubs starting due to the increase in coach numbers and the introduction of junior clubs and High School involvement. |
