Wales or Scotland may stage
test match
Tue Jan 01
The Rugby Football League is currently looking at staging a Great Britain Test
match against New Zealand in either Scotland or Wales later this year.
New Zealand have decided to tour Great Britain at the end of this year and while
Huddersfield and Wigan are likely to hold the second and third test matches, a
venue is yet to be decided for the first test match of the series. Cardiff's
Millennium Stadium and Murrayfield in Edinburgh could possibly hold the match.
All three of the games in the recent Ashes series against Australia were played
in the north of England at Huddersfield's McAlpine Stadium, Wigan's JJB Stadium
and the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, all of which is considered to be the Rugby
League strong-hold of Great Britain. It would certainly be good for the game to
go beyond traditional areas and for the Lions to play in the other countries
that they represent being Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
