HEALING MODALITIES
Blood Type:
There is no one diet for all people. People with different blood types have different antigens on their blood cells - food contains antigens as well. If the food antigens conflict with those in your blood, there could be many unpleasant side effects. Blood type is just one aspect of biochemical individuality. It has been found that people are not only different due to blood type antigens, but, that they have different shapes of internal organs, different nerve and circulation patterns, and possess different genes- all of which may cause differences in metabolism, chemical reactions, and digestive enzymes. It is not practical to expect to be able to know which enzymes a person secretes, or what his metabolism is like, or what chemical reactions take place with certain foods. Blood type antigens have taken some of the guess work out of the equation. After much research, the blood type has been shown to be a strong marker of incorrect nutritional practices and inappropriate lifestyle choices. After correcting these practices and choices, most people notice very positive changes in their health and well being.
Nutrition:
The food that we fuel our bodies with is of the utmost importance. What we choose to eat could make the difference between a full, healthy life and a life of constant health problems. Combining the knowledge of blood type antigens and of holistic nutrition is a very effective means of creating and maintaining health. Why would anyone think that one person should eat exactly the same thing as every other person. Even if several people share the same disorder or disease, if they are all of a different blood type, then the most beneficial protocols would be based on eating foods that are most compatible with each individual person's system...not a "one-size-fits-all-diet". The same holds true if there are no disorders involved. In maintaining wellness, it is best to focus on foods compatible with your blood type. This is not to say that you need to comply 100%. If you have no complaints, 70% compliance is usually recommended in order to maintain that status. Having said all of that, and keeping blood type suggestions in mind, continuing and very recent research is focusing on hormone imbalance ( insulin, in particular) and inflammation as predictors of dis-ease and chronic ailments, in addition to many terminal disorders. Insulin imbalance and inflammatory conditions are influenced greatly by the food we eat. Researcher after researcher after researcher is coming to the conclusion that excess carbohydrates - no matter what your blood type may be - are, in most cases, the cause of this imbalance and inflammation. In most situations involving health and wellness, it is being noted that the avoidance of simple and refined carbohydrates completely and a drastic reduction in complex carbohydrates may result in a state of good or improved health. This is not something that is easy to do, as carbohydrates are extremely prevalent in the modern diet. However, if chronic illness abounds, then, one must consider all options. I will attempt to guide you in this situation.
Supplements:
Unless you buy or grow completely organic food, the nutritional value of the foods that you eat is less than it was in the past. Our soil has become depleted of nutrients and the quality of the air and water is such that it fails to yield nutrient-rich foods. The addition of dietary supplements can make up for this problem in any nutritional program. It is very important, however, to be aware of food, drug, and supplement or herbal interactions. Also of importance is the knowledge of the sources of various supplements and their bioavailability within the system. This is why it is always a very good idea to consult with a holistic practitioner before making any changes. In most cases, they are aware of the nutrient sources and bioavailability of various supplements on the market.
Herbal Medicine:
Unlike chemical medicines, herbs have been found to correct the root causes of problems instead of treating symptoms. They have been found to affect hormonal levels, cell matabolism, liver health, and all other bodily functions. However, they should only be used under guidance, as herbs can produce adverse reactions if taken improperly. This could be the inappropriate use of herbs such as lobelia, pokeweed, bladderwrack, mistletoe, St. John's Wort.
Basic Homeopathy:
A homeopathic remedy works by stimulating the body to fight against a certain set of symptoms; it works on the premise of "like healing like." In homeopathic medicine, the substance used is diluted many thousands of times. Essentially, nothing remains of the it within the dilution but it's essence. It is this essence that very effectively stimulates the body to fight the symptoms that the substance taken full strength would have caused. When you match a person's symptoms with a particular remedy, his IMMUNE SYSTEM reacts to fight the symptoms. The remedy does not suppress them. Homeopathic remedies have been used for hundreds of years - often giving results when early medicine failed. There are no known side effects to this kind of treatment and it is very easy to self-treat minor disorders. When using homeopathic remedies, it has been found to be best if there is avoidance of coffee, mint, eucalyptus, camphor, and smoking. All of these substances have been found to nullify homeopathic therapies. If you have a serious problem, however, it is most wise to consult with a trained homeopathic physician.
Aromatherapy:
True essential oils are very concentrated essences of plants, and can be used to treat a wide variety of illnesses and disorders. Even though it cannot be proved exactly how they work, research and anecdotal evidence exists to prove that they DO work. Natural, pure, essential oils can be used on living tissue with minimal unwanted effects(unlike some synthetic drugs). Also, the human body can become insensitive to chemical drugs, but, this has not been found to be the case with essential oils which can, in fact, strengthen the body while killing off bacteria. They must be used with great care, as some can cause severe reactions if used at full strength (such as contact dermatitis). Some common uses for essential oils are: muscle relaxants, mood elevators, antiseptics, energizers, stress reducers, mental stimulants, pregnancy massages, treatment of pain, stress, insomnia, and nervous disorders and as antibacterial sprays and insect repellants.
Relaxation:
The body heals itself during relaxation and sleep. If you are constantly stimulating the body without letting it rejuvenate properly, it will soon wear out. The alpha state, which is achieved during meditation, is one of the best healing modalities.
Exercise:
This is vital for keeping the entire body working correctly. It is vitally important for brain health and mood disorders. Moderate aerobic exercise and resistance training with weights is highly beneficial, but over-exercise causes damage in the body and can do more harm than good.
Deep Breathing:
Because of all the daily stresses and problems that people face, many of us have gotten into the habit of breathing shallowly. This does not allow the blood to circulate properly and reduces the intake of vital oxygen. Deep diaphragmatic breathing fully oxygenates the system. It has been found to be helpful in panic and anxiety attacks, stress, nervousness, and fatigue.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT):
This technique has been shown to be beneficial for any mental or physical disorder, including addictions, phobias, depression, and any kind of pain. The theory behind it states that all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body's energy system; by tapping on the body's energy meridians, the disruption is corrected - alleviating the negative emotions. When the negative emotions are gone, the physical ailments that were associated with them just seem to melt away. Sometimes the problem is taken care of with just one round of tapping. Other times, it takes much longer due to many different aspects of the same problem coming up. Some adverse effects may be noticed initially - such as mild depression, fatigue, minor aches or pains. This is not to be taken as a bad sign, but rather that some emotional baggage is being moved. It has been found that if the EFT is continued, those effects diminish and leave - replaced by an increased feeling of well being and relief.
INFORMATION AND SUGGESTIONS FOR VARIOUS DISORDERS
The blood type is used as a starting point in all of my suggestions. If you do not know your type, self-typing kits are available in most health food stores. I have researched extensively, and the following are are samples of the most prevalent complaints I have worked with. Workups can be done with any complaint, we just need to discuss the problem in detail.
