Spring 1945
These two troopers show the variety of gear that outfitted the
German army by the last stages of the war. Various camoflauge
uniforms were present, worn with lace up boots, jack boots, field pants,
camo pants, etc. Whatever the supply master managed to acquire was
used to outfit the soldiers remaining in the command. |

German Flame Gunner
On the Eastern Front, these men were often criminals or military
prisoners, used as flame thrower operators for the expedient fact that the
Russian soldiers made short work of any captured flame gunners. In
this way, the Army got their soldier, and if he was captured and killed,
it was no huge loss, as it was a criminal anyway. Needless to say,
morale among these specialists was very low. |
