According to the various prophecies, the Comet or asteroid will come to symbolize the World War III. The prophecies indicate that not only will the Comet appear during the time the war will be going on, but it will strike the Earth (actually an ocean or sea) and will cause devastating tidal waves, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions leading to the loss of millions of lives. In all probability this event will pave the way for the Eastern forces to attack and occupy a weakened and devastated Europe. Other prophecies indicate that another collision will take place after the peace (following WW-III) is over and during the "End of the World". Here is a collection of prophecies which indicate the event of Comets striking the earth.

The Bible - Book of Revelation (8:7-12)

"The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mixed with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp [other translations, "a torch"], and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood [means "bitter" or unpotable]; and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter. And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so that the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise."

Probably the comet/asteroid would be broken up in various chunks, big and small. Some smaller ones will come first ("hail and fire mixed with blood"), fall on the land and explode in balls of fire destroying trees and towns probably. The big one, the bulk of the core ("mountain burning with fire") would hit the sea causing ships and creatures of the sea to be destroyed instantly. The resulting tidal waves would also destroy the coastal towns and cities. A smaller part of the comet or asteroid would fall on the land and throw up rocks and ash into the atmosphere. The resulting dust would rise into the atmosphere and block the sun and moonlight as is usual in such a scenario. The waters of the rivers would also be polluted, probably because of some radioactive minerals in the comet/asteroid, which would result in many deaths. It goes on to say "And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key of the shaft of the bottomless pit; he opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft." This seems to be a description of some kind of volcanic eruption which will be a result of the great impact of the comet/asteroid. This itself will also further contribute to the spewing of smoke and ash into the atmosphere, blocking the sunlight further. This is the general scenario which the scientists agree will be the result of a big comet  or asteroid striking the earth. Thus the descriptions in the Biblical Book of Revelations, with all its religious fervour, is an accurate description of a Comet or asteroid striking the earth during the war of "Armageddon". This would have seemed surreal to us but for the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, which all of humanity watched with awe when it broke up into several pieces and fell into the planet Jupiter during July 1994. There is also evidence of such collisions taking place in the Earth itself in the pre-historic times and also more recently in Tunguska, Siberia.

"And I saw heaven open and behold a white horse, and he that sat upon him....is called the Word of God...amid flaming fire (thunder and lightning)... (Rev.19, 11)

The Great Monarch will appear on a white horse (see the Hindu Prophecies below) "amid flaming fire", which may describe the striking of the Comet.

Hindu Prophecies

Hindu prophecies speak of an Avatar who is the incarnation, or manifestation, of  God Vishnu. Hindu legend says that Vishnu has already assumed nine avatars, with a tenth, Kalki, due to appear at the end of the "Age of Untruth" to usher humankind into the "Age of Purity". Kalki is the same person as the Awaited One or Second coming of Christ prophesized by other religion and probably "Chiren" of Nostradamus.

O Vishnu ! in the form of the fierce Kalki! For the destruction of the wicked, You carry a comet like sword in hand, trailing a train of disaster to them. Hail Hari! Lord of the universe!

Thus Kalki is symbolized with a sword in his hand. But this sword looks like no other sword. It is a Comet ! Kalki will appear at a time when the world and human society will reach the nadir of moral and cultural values, and lose all awareness of what is right and wrong. At that time, the root of all civilization itself, as it were, will be severed from mankind and people will drift along, not knowing their destination or direction.

In such chaos will come Kalki, riding a white horse and wielding a Comet-like sword to destroy the evil, degenerated world, speeding across it like a comet. He will complete the destruction of the world and prepare for its recreation in his image. The mythical prediction of Kalki, many say, is seen to be coming true in the modern world where corruption, selfishness, cruelty, violence and lack of concern for the environment are taking precedent over kindness, loyalty and uprightness...

"Whenever there is a withering of the law and an uprising of lawlessness on all sides, then I manifest Myself.
For the salvation of the righteous and the destruction of evil, and for the firm establishing of the Law,
I come to birth Age after Age."

     (Bhagavad-Gita, Book IV, Sutras 5, 7 & 8 respectively.)

Another little known Hindu book named Divya Maha Kala Jnana, literally meaning "Divine Knowledge of the Time" written by Shree Veera Brahmendra Maha Swami, who lived in the modern Andhra Pradesh state of India, about 1000 years ago, had elaborated on the events preceding the appearance of Kalki or "Sree Veera Bhoga Vasantharaya" as he termed him.

Some of the descriptions of the events are amazingly similar to those described in the western religious texts or by prophets like Nostradamus and others. The details of his prophecies are given in the page Hindu Prophecies : The Kalki Purana. One of these prophecies indicate events similar to the rain of "hail and fire" described in the Bible and elsewhere :

- A Star with three tails will be born in the east, due to which many villages will be reduced to ashes. [The "star with three tails" is the comet with three tails. Burning pieces falling from the comet will destroy cities, villages and forests].

Not long ago, a burning meteorite fell in the adjacent state of Orissa in India causing injuries and several  houses were burnt down. The news got prominent coverage in the press worldwide. This perhaps point to the extent of destruction that burning pieces of a comet are capable of causing, apart from tidal waves. Here are some clippings :

Zoroastrianism

"Sosiosh, will be brought down on a Horse in a "tornado of fire."

(Magian Zend-Avesta)

According to Zoroastrian scripture, the end of the world will come about when a comet, called Gochihr, strikes the earth. Its "fire and halo" will melt all metals and minerals and will burn up the world in a general conflagration. The resulting boiling flood of metal will flow over the earth like a river. The righteous, as well as the wicked souls (released from hell) will pass through it. The wicked will be purified of their sins, but the pious will feel like they're passing through warm milk. If there are to be two Comet strikes as said by Mother Shipton, this might be a reference to the second one during the "end of the world".

"And then Shahrewar will release molten metal into that hole where they entered (the world), and it will go in after them. Those demons will thus fall from this earth to Hell, just as a stone,  when it falls or is thrown into water, quickly sinks to the bottom of the water.  Then when punishment is inflicted on the wicked ones, the Sosans will perform one act of worship and one-fifth of the other demons will be destroyed, and he will perform a second act of worship one-fifth (will be destroyed), (with) a third act of worship one-fifth (will be destroyed), (with) a fourth act of worship one-fifth (will be destroyed) and he will perform a fifth act of worship and all the demons will be taken away."

Nostradamus

After great misery for mankind an even greater approaches when the great cycle of the centuries is renewed. It will rain blood, milk, famine, war and disease. In the sky will be seen a fire, dragging a trail of sparks - II.46

During the war the Comet "fire dragging a trail of sparks" approaches from the sky to wreck destruction.

The great mountain, seven stadia round, after peace, war, famine, flooding. It will spread far, drowning great countries, even antiquities and their great foundations - I.69

Here is the clear description and size of the Comet. The tidal waves created by the strike of the comet in the sea will spread far, flooding many countries.

During the appearance of the bearded star, the three great princes will be made enemies: Struck from the sky, peace earth quaking, Po, Tiber overflowing, serpent placed upon the shore. -II.43

When the Comet ("bearded star"- the star with beard) appears, the war will go on. Then it will strike the earth from the sky. The water from the tidal waves will even travel inland and the rivers will overflow as a result.

Mabus then will soon die, there will come of people and beasts a horrible rout: Then suddenly one will see vengeance, hundred, hand, thirst, hunger when the comet will run. - II.62

After "Mabus" dies, the Comet will arrive and strike the earth. Eastern forces will seize the opportunity provided by the chaos to take the revenge for the death of "Mabus" and probably attack Europe as is indicated elsewhere.

Through fire from the sky the city almost burned: The floods threatens Deucalion again: Sardinia vexed by the African fleet, after Libra will leave Leo - II.81

"Deucalion" is the Greek equivalent of Noah. The "fire from sky" may describe the use of nuclear weapons. But the association of floods with it may mean that the Comet strike will result in the flood (of similar proportions as during Noah's time) due to tidal waves. Some of the burning fragments may strike cities. Soon after, Arab forces will start attacking Europe.

At the 48th degree of the climacteric, the end of Cancer there is a very drought. Fish in the sea, river and the lake boiled hectic, Bearn & Bigorre in distress from fire in the sky - V.98

This is a description of either a nuclear attack or the Comet strike. "Fire in the sky" tallies with the description of other similar events.

Very near Auch, Lectoure and Mirande a great fire will fall from the sky for three nights. The cause will appear both stupefying and marvellous; shortly afterwards there will be an earthquake. - I.46

Advance fragments of burning comet pieces will fall from the sky for three nights. The cause will definitely be "stupefying and marvellous" as people realise that they are going to be hit by a comet which has happened never before in the recorded human history. Shortly afterwards, when the core of the comet strikes the seabed, a great earthquake will be felt all around.

In the year that Saturn and Mars are equally fiery, the air is very dry, a long comet. From hidden fires a great place burns with heat, little rain, a hot wind, wars and raids - IV.67

The Comet is again indicated in this quatrain and it is associated with war.

Condom and Auch and around Mirande, I see fire from the sky which encompasses them. Sun and Mars conjoined in Leo, then at Marmande, lightning, great hail, a wall falls into the Garonne. - VIII.2

French cities are engulfed by "Fire from the sky" and "great hail" and lightning. Nostradamus probably tells here of the fragments of the comet which falls on the land. The description is similar to the "hail and fire" mentioned in the Biblical Revelations.

The great star will burn for seven days and the cloud will make the sun appear double. The large mastiff will howl all night when the great pontiff changes his abode - II.41

In all likelihood "the great star" burning for seven days is the Comet which will be seen in the sky for seven days before is strikes the Earth. The duration is close to the "six days" mentioned in Mother Shipton's prophecies. The comet has to be very close to the Earth to be visible in the daylight as another "sun". Surely a Comet rushing towards Earth will appear like this ! The Pope is airlifted to safety, probably to the USA, after scientists work out that the probable impact point will be around Europe and that Rome is likely to be affected severely after the Comet strikes. "The large mastiff will howl all night" - probably indicates the continuous sound of the siren that will sound in Rome and probably in all cities of Europe when emergency evacuation measures are taken to move people away from southern Europe.

The suddenness of the event will leave the people with no options but to try to flee the projected area of impact. All these events are eerily close to the scenario shown in movies like "Armageddon" or "Deep Impact" etc. Unlike the movies however, the detection of the Comet will be made only a week before the impact, during a time the world is already in trouble, leaving no scope for heroic actions to save the planet.

Contemporary Christian Prophecies

In the recent times prophecies on World War III and on the impending Comet strike on earth has been coming from various esoteric sources, including visions of Mary and Jesus appearing to various persons with Christian belief. The comet has been referred to as the "Ball of Redemption" in these prophecies:

"For soon there will come upon you the great Chastisement. It comes in two parts, My child and My children: the Third World War, and also the Ball of Redemption. These can no longer be delayed."

Veronica- I know it's a comet. It, it's a round ball of fire, and it's traveling at a very fast pace through the sky. And it's so hot! I can feel the heat, the great heat of this long tail. As it's going through space, it's shooting out a tremendous fiery tail. Oh!

"I repeat, My child, your country shall not escape the destruction of the fires, as you will be planet-struck.

"As in the days of Noe, My child, many shall reject the Message from Heaven."

And oh, oh, it has hit through the water; it's brushed through the water. And there are waves rising higher, higher than anything possible I could have seen. The waves are terrible. They're washing half of the continent out to sea.

Oh, my! Our Lady is pointing up to the sky, and I can see a tremendously large ball of fire. It's beyond description. It's the most frightening thing I've ever seen. And it's going through the air at a very fast speed, and I can see over on the right side of the sky an outline of the earth.

And the ball is heading for the earth and it's striking, the tail is setting fire to the side, I can see here, of the earth. Oh! Oh! The tail has intersected the earth, and the ball is now circling the earth. Oh! Now it's growing very dark. I can feel the great heat. Ohh!

And the globe now is one of the world, but there are flames on one side. I am almost looking now into the area. There are flames, and there's a big hole. Oh, it covers half of the globe, the hole. It's like burned out, as though it's been hit by a tremendous big ball of fire. Oh, it's terrible. I can feel the heat.

Now I notice that there is a tremendous ball now setting out in the sky by the sun. It's like two giant suns in the sky. But the ball on the right has a tail, and it's starting to move now around the sun. And as it goes it's bouncing crazily....

And it's heading now over towards the earth again. It's hit it once, and something happened. And now it's heading for another part of the globe. It's turned its course completely around and is striking the globe; I can see now the whole underside of the globe in flames.

I see a great light, a flash! It's so hot, this flash! Oh, there's a large ball of fire. Oh, it's very hot, and it's whirling through the sky, and it's shooting off sparks behind it. The sparks-they're large pieces of rock, and they're falling, falling down.

Now the waters, the waters are rising very high. I can see the waters. Oh! Oh! Oh, the waters have come in. They're so high! And I see some cities. I see a large city, and the waters are now-oh, they're pounding against the ground. And now I see the buildings--they're falling! Now the ground is cracking, and the buildings are falling into the holes. Oh! Oh! Oh!

It seems that America too is going to be affected by the striking comet. This explains why it will be unable to help Europe in resisting Arab invasion coming after the comet strike. Conversely, the Arab countries seem to be relatively less affected by the falling Comet. Mother Shipton's prophecies though, seem to indicate two Comet strikes, the second being probably larger in magnitude. It is hard to say about which one the Comet strikes these Christian prophecies are speaking of.
