Poldhu Cove
Poldhu (pole-jew) Cove is a pretty if standard cove with a stream running through it to the sea. Lots of rocks to climb and caves to explore, not to mention building dams in the stream and looking for tadpoles. We used to go there very often at any time of year because it was so close to our house, and the coastal path to Gunwalloe Church Cove made a nice walk for the dog as well as offering some gorgeous views for us.
The above picture was taken from the rocks on the shoreline... or a little beyond the shoreline actually. I was fascinated with the seagulls who were bobbing resolutely in a line facing the oncoming waves. With every wave, they took off momentarily, flying over the crest and then landing back in the water to swim once more. The house on the cliffs is a retirement home.
This picture was taken from the roadside as we walked up from Poldhu towards Gunwalloe Church Cove. An artistic attempt of mine to capture the curve of the waves in the curve of the embankment along the road. Take note of the thrift (the flowers) growing in the grass. I know they're not in focus, but thrift is an integral part of the Cornish Seaside. As you can see, there's one person who's decided to brave the waters. I think this picture was taken in May or June... I generally wouldn't recommend swimming in Cornwall until July!
