Brown Xhishoth: Chasing[ Stats ] [ Impression ] [ Hatchling ]
[ Weyrling ] [ Adult ]Xhishoth stood knee-deep in Ryslen's pond, stretching luxuriously as his rider scrubbed him. One of the largest browns at Ryslen, he certainly had a lot of hide to wash, and Fr'dyre was thankful for his blue Hanashimazu's assistance. You know, Xhi, if you were a blue, there wouldn't be as much of you to scrub.
A blue wouldn't do for you, Xhishoth told his rider absentmindedly. Blues aren't serious enough. They wouldn't be able to help you like I do.
Fr'dyre simply laughed at his egotistic lifemate.
Xhishoth's mind was obviously somewhere else; at any rate, he refrained from making conversation. A little while later, he asked tentatively, Fr'dyre, am I too big?
His rider was somewhat surprised by the brown's cryptic question. Too big for what?
Too big to fly a green? Because I am a lot bigger than a blue...
Fr'dyre grinned. So that's what you've been thinking about all day. Xhi, you're wonderful, a beautiful brown. And a wingleader at Abri to boot. And a big brown like you would sire a better clutch than a smaller blue. No... his face darkened I think it's me who would be the problem.
You? Why, Fr'dyre?
Xhi, how could anyone like a deaf rider?
Xhishoth's mental voice was comforting. I think Tauryn would be tolerant of disabilities... and anyway, I am your ears. You would be closer to me in my flight.
Tauryn? She rides...
Light green Lovanith, the brown dragon interrupted. Lovanith, Lovanith, Lovanith... Isn't that a beautiful name for a gorgeous dragon, Fr'dyre?
Fr'dyre tried to keep from laughing at his besotted dragon. I think you're getting rather loud, Xhi, he commented. Indeed, several of the greens who were also bathing had turned to look at them. Including...
Lovanith! With a mental cry of delight, Xhishoth jumped up, spraying water all over his rider, and half-swum half-flew over to where the pretty light green stood. Fr'dyre watched with some amusement while his brown proceded to perform all sorts of acrobatics, and the covetted Lovanith batted her wings coyly. Finally, he summoned his lifemate back. I think you've impressed her enough for one day, Xhi.
I hope so. When Lovanith rises, I want to be the one to fly her!
Read the flight!
I told you that I would catch Lovanith! Brown Xhishoth's voice was proud, as he glanced down at the Hatching Grounds where Lovanith would clutch so soon. It had been a good flight, remarkably high and long for a greenflight.
My Lovanith is no ordinary green! She is Light Green, and we will have beautiful children! Xhishoth protested, causing his rider to smile. His lifemate had flown high and well to catch Lovanith; she would surely lay a good clutch. Already she was eggheavy, and would most likely begin laying as soon as golden Arosambyth was off the sands.
I never doubted you, Xhi, Fr'dyre assured his brown. You did fly well. For both of us.
For Tauryn had been as perfect for him as Xhishoth had assured him. Neither cared about the other's disability; they loved each other without awkwardness or hesitation. Tauryn had gained confidence in herself, realized that she was pretty and lovable. And Lovanith's temper seemed infinitely calmer and more agreeable. It was wonderful that life could be so perfect.
