Insects of Oklahoma

The Buggy Photography
I have a collection of some interesting insects. I do not limit myself to just the pretty insects like butterflies and moths. For example, I like to photograph dragonflies, and they are not easy to photograph. I am building a large collection of photos of these wonderful creatures. Spiders and wasps also peak my interest, especially when a wasp kills a spider or vice versa. I do not claim to be any kind of expert when it comes to identifying the insects. If you see I have wrongly identify one of the insects on this page, please feel free to use the form, so I can make the correction.

Picture of Five Banded Tiphiid Wasp

Five Banded Tiphiid Wasp preys on May Beetles by laying its eggs on the larva, but the wasp is preyed on by the Velvet Ant.

Picture of Garden Jumping Spider

Garden Jumping Spider is a class with numerous sub species. It is hard to identify which Jumping Spider is which, so I just look for the common body type to identify if it is a Jumping Spider or a different type of spider.

Picture of Dogday Harvestfly

Dogday Harvestfly is a cicada, but the nymphs of this species only take three years to mature. This cicada likes to feed on pine root juices.

Picture of Tarantula Hawk with prey

Tarantula Hawk preys on the tarantula by stinging it. This does not kill the spider but makes it immobile, so then the wasp drags her prize back to her den and lay eggs on it.
