Montego Bay

We stayed at Rose Hall Intercontinental Hotel the first time in Jamaica in 1977.  The second time was the Royal Carribean Hotel few years later in 1979.  There are pictures shown here with my late husband as he traveled with me to places in this web site except Mexico, Ireland and England.  Here is the costume we purchased on a train trip inside the island to a rum factory.  On the way back the outfits were completed and we wore them that night to dinner.  I love the music of the steel drum band with the Calypso Band playing.  It's so exciting to watch also the dancers dance to that music with fire and going under the limbo stick very low to the ground.

Martha Brae River Raft

As you can see in photos above we had a river guide take us down the river in Jamaica and just as a joke they painted "Love Boat" just below our feet on raft.  I was not sure if there were alligators but I was more concerned with the long machette (knife) the guide had at his side.

Ocho Rios

We went inside a cave at Ocho Rios and went up this natural falls one by one with other torists and a guide.  I took my sound movie camera on this trip.  I think this was the first and only time outside the United States that I used a sound movie camera.  Back then the camera was not as compact or sophisticated as today.  It used 8 mm film on a reel and a detached microphone on a cord.

Crab Race

I also filmed a crab race taken by the patio pool by our hotel.  The crabs have different painted colors on their shell and are put inside the middle of a white chalked circle where a box is lifted from over them where they run out of.  The one that crosses the circle first wins and people there gambled money on their favorite.  Hint:  the crabs shy away from the shade so there must not be any shade or they go in opposite direction.  The guy who called the race sounded just like the professional emcee's over here in the States at a horse race track.

Deep Sea Fishing

I was lucky enough to go out with my husband and the guys that came with their wifes on this vacation.  Their wives had been deep sea fishing before and told me I should go.  The water was calm and I was told by the captain that there probably won't be any big fish surfacing that day because of that and when there aren't any birds around then he looks elsewhere for the fish.  The birds are attracted to the fish.  Whenever the crew and captain has passengers that catch Marlins or Blue Nose Dolphins they keep the meat and then the outer skin is sent for processing for wall mountings.
