The Bible according to the Koran

It is overwhelming to see how many verses (ayas) the Koran uses to stress the truth, reliability, and infalibility of the Bible (Torah-Taurat, Psalms-Zabur, Gospel-Injil).

Here are a few of them in list format:

sura 2:1-5, 41, 78, 89, 136
sura 3:48, 93-94
Sura 4:13, 136, 163-164, 150-152
Suras 5:44-47
Sura 6:93
Sura 10:38,95
sura 21:7
sura 32:24
sura 35:31
sura 40:70-72 sura 42:15
sura 46:11-12, 30
sura 62:5
sura 74:31

Here a few verses expanded:

5:47 says, "Let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah hath revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by what Allah hath revealed, they are those who rebel." 48 "And We have revealed to you the Book with the truth, verifying what is before it of the Book and a guardian over it, therefore judge between them by what Allah has revealed,"
2:136 says," Say: We believe in Allah and (in) that which had been revealed to us, and (in) that which was revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and (in) that which was given to Musa and Isa, and (in) that which was given to the prophets from their Lord, we do not make any distinction between any of them, and to Him do we submit."

I believe in the Book (of the People of the Book) which God has sent down... Surat-ush Shura (42):15

We believe in God, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) Prophets from their Lord. We make no difference between one and another of them. Surat-ul Baqara (2):136

O People of the Book Ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord. Surat-ul Maida (5):68

Let the People of the Gospel judge by what God has revealed therein. Surat-ul Maida (5):47

And in their footsteps we sent Jesus the son of Mary confirming the Law that had come before him. We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light, and confirmation of the Law. Surat-ul Maida (5):46

If thou (Muhammad) are in doubt as to what We have revealed, then ask the People of the Book. Surat-u Yunus (10):94

And when there comes to them a Book (Qur'an) from God confirming what is with them... ... yet they reject all besides even if it be truth confirming what is with them... And when there came to them an Apostle of God confirming what was with them... Surat-ul Baqara (2):89, 91, 101

Muslims are required to believe in the Bible

42:14-15
29:45

You're rebelling if you don't believe in the Injil (Gospel of Jesus). Allah commands the Muslims to judge by the previous revealed scriptures. And if they did't understand them, he commanded to "ask the People of the Book" to explain. Why? Because they have the Word of God. Allah also promises that He will keep His word by being "a guardian over it." What a promise. Do you believe God can keep His Word?

If the Word of the Lord was true in the Torah and the Zabur and Injil, then how could it have changed when Al-Qur'an itself says no one can alter the Word of God?:

The Word of thy Lord doth find its fulfillment in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. Surat-ul An'am (6):15

No change can there be in the Words of God. Surat-u Yunus (10):64

The claim that the Bible has been corrupted since the time of Jesus didn't start until the 2nd or 3rd century after the rise of Islam. Obviously Muhammed believed in the Bible, for he commanded his followers to read it and obey it.

This foolish claim that the Bible has been corrupted has no historical or scientific evidence to back itself up. It relies solely upon the fearful thought that if the Bible really is true and not corrupted, and the Koran doesn't line up with the Bible, then the Koran is the one that is false, and ALL faith in Islam shatters in despair.

When attesting to the truth of the Bible, I don't stand on the circular argument that the Koran gives credence to it. The Bible has plenty of proof for its accuracey such as manuscript evidence and painstaking and scrupulous bequeathing of its text through the ages, the height of complex codes found not in any other book, fulfillment of hundreds of prophecies, and so much more. The only reason I use the Koran to justify the Bible when talking to Muslims is to show how flawed and wanting they are to believe in the accuracy of the Koran, when at the same time, the Koran attests the Bible, which blatantly condemns the Koran's teachings as heretical and hellbound. It makes no sense.

The only way for the Muslim to get around this is for him to turn his head when historical evidence pops up in front of his nose, and ignore the truth and the chance to pursue it when possible. Against all evidence and logical thinking, the muslim condemns the Bible as currupted, for if he doesn't, then he admits to the fall of the accuracy of the Koran, and thus, the Islamic faith.

Today we have over 2700 manuscripts of the Bible that date to before Muhammed's birth. If Muhammed told his believers to believe the Bible, then surely should every muslim today, for our Bible today is the exact same as Muhammed's time, as one can easily see when comparing the Bible of today to the one before Muhammed.

By the time of Muhammed, Christianity and it's Holy Bible had already spread over Aisia, Africa, and Europe. Since Judaism and Christianity spread throughout the world, it would have been impossible for anyone to collect all the Holy Books, manuscripts, and writings containing Scriptural references from all churches, synagogues, libraries, schools, and homes, and make the changes, and then return them all without anyone knowing! (http://answering-islam.org/Morin/changed.html) if indeed the Bible was corrupted after Muhammed died.

We have the same Word today as Jesus spoke 2000 years ago. It is your choice to believe Jesus' warning of Hell, and more importantly how He has revealed the ONLY way out. It is your eternity that is at risk. Be sincere and impartial when shown the evidence while on your search for truth. The stakes are high.

Some might object by saying that the Koran DOES say that the Bible is corrupted, quoting Sura 4:46: "Of those who are Jews (there are those who) alter words from their places and say: We have heard and we disobey and: Hear, may you not be made to hear! and: Raina, distorting (the word) with their tongues and taunting about religion; and if they had said (instead): We have heard and we obey, and hearken, and unzurna it would have been better for them and more upright; but Allah has cursed them on account of their unbelief, so they do not believe but a little."

If we look at this verse very carefully, we can see that neither it, nor any other verse in the Koran says that the Jews or Christians changed the actual writing of the biblical text. What does the bold part say? They distorted with their tongues. Other verses say that the Jews know the truth, becasue it is written in the Torah, but just conceal it and say false teachings. The Koran never hints at the actual text being changed.

[2.146] "Those whom We have given the Book recognize him as they recognize their sons, and a party of them most surely conceal the truth while they know (it)."

This is upheld by the historical truth that many of the Arabian Jews, who had no fear of God, took it at their own liberty to interpret the Jewish writings (the Taurat) [the interpretations called Targums] and sell them to the Arabs. These Jews took the Taurat and changed it with their tongues and own imaginations and then told these stories to the Arabs. This is exactly what Muhammed is talking about when he condemns the Jews for their evil.

By the way, this also plays into the fact and explains why Muhammed's stories in the Koran of the Old Testament stories were always a little different than how the Bible explains them. Muhammed was illiterate, as many of the Arabians and those who followed him, and therefore, had to rely on the Jew's stories and speakings about Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and of course, Jesus. If God gave Muhammed these stories in the Koran, don't you think the stories in it would not contradict the biblical accounts of them so much?

Inconsistencies between biblical and koranic stories

We can show that the Torah was held in very high sight of Muhammed and his followers, but that some of the Jews changed it with their tongues:

[3.93]" All food was lawful to the children of Israel except that which Israel had forbidden to himself, before the Taurat was revealed. Say: Bring then the Taurat and read it, if you are truthful." [3.94] "Then whoever fabricates a lie against Allah after this, these it is that are the unjust.:

A great example of how the practices of the day were lined up with the Torah to see if they were in right standing, and also that the first century of Islam's muslims believed in the Bible is shown in one of the traditions:

Mishkat, Book XV, Chapter I: paraphrased: "A Jew came to Muhammed and told him that a woman of his had committed adultery. Muhammed asked, "What does the book of Moses say about stoning in this matter?" The Jew told him that it just says the man and the woman get whipped and then let go, for stoning is not in the Bible. Then another learned Jew said, "You lie! Stoning is truly in the the book of Moses." Then the book was brought and the learned Jew read the revelation for stoning and the verses above and below it. And the stoning revelation was in the book. Then Muhammed ordered both the man and woman to be stoned."

As we look at more and more evidence it becomes more clear that the Bible was held in high esteem by Muhammed and the first century of Islam's muslims.

Now the question comes: why would Muhammed tell everyone to obey the old revelations and books and judge the new ones thereby if the Koran doesn't line up at all with them? Wouldn't he know that his new religion contradicted the old one of Abraham and Jesus?
