Unexpected Admissionsby Allison K. East  Lee ‘Apollo’ Adama could not believe it. Granted, he may not be the most silver-tongued pilot in the Fleet, but generally he knew what to say and when. But maybe the sudden appearance of Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace unhinged him slightly. It would be easier to blame the arrival of the Cylonafter all, it was a copy of the one that shot his father; but his first slip was before he saw it. It was perfectly natural for him to hug Kara when she turned up. He was genuinely glad to see her, her prolonged absence made them all wonder if she had even made it back to Caprica, let alone whether she would make it back. So a hug was natural. But a kiss? Sure, it seemed natural at the time, a hug then a kiss. It was only when they drew back from the brief kiss that it had hit them what had happened. Lee was startled that he kissed her; it was not something that he had ever thought about before, not really. She was his friend for frak’s sake, not to mention his dead brother’s fiancé. But he could not deny the feelings that surfaced when he unwittingly kissed Kara. He could not make heads or tails of them, but he could not deny they were there. And he could tell from the look on Kara’s face that she was similarly affected. To cover the confusion of the moment, Lee had to tell her to remind him to put her in the brig later for the little stunt she pulled. But the kiss was just the beginning of the startling admissions. Later on, concerned by Kara’s erratic behaviour, Lee tracked her down to where she was bouncing a Pyramid ball off the wall. She was very moody, and he tried to get her to talk. He was her friend, and he told her so; and it was then that another startling admission came out. In the middle of his comforting monologue he said that he loved her. He did not even notice it at the time; it was only when she called him on it that he realised what he said. Uncharacteristically flustered, he resorted to telling her that she was dreaming when she would not let him try and explain or take it back. The thing was, the more he thought about it, the more he realised that he did not want to take it back. It was a feeling that had crept up on him, but he now knew that he loved Kara Thrace. It was not the time to pursue it, there was a lot of things that had to be done (not the least of which was the mission down on the surface of Kobol to find the tomb of Athena); and he was not sure whether a relationship would even work between them, their friendship was rather adversarial at times. Not that he’d even thought about it before. All he knew was that he loved Kara, and now he had to work out where to go from there.
