It about broke his heart to do it (figuratively speaking, of course), but Angel broke up with Buffy. He had to tell her that it was what he wanted, when truthfully it was the opposite. He would like nothing more than to be with her forever, but he knew that it was impossible. It was a fantasy that had no place in the real world, and it was right that he end it now, to give her a chance at normality in her totally un-normal world and end what could never be.

If only it didn’t hurt so damned much.
