Operation Romance
By Mahlia Belonn

// indicates thoughts.

Chet put the finishing touches to his latest project while Marco, Mike and Hank looked on. This was not a Phantom trick. It was a project, codenamed Operation Romance, which the four of them had come up with in order to help out their two clueless paramedics. It was obvious that the two men were in love with each other, but neither of them would admit it to the other. At first they had decided to let it go and let Roy and Johnny work it out for themselves, but as time went on and nothing happened, they had decided to step in. Roy had been divorced for ten months now, and Johnny was still being dumped every week. The guys just wanted to see them happy and believed that they belonged together.

They had just put away the equipment they had been using when both Johnny and Roy pulled into the station. They all hovered near the locker room so that they could watch their plan in action. Chet was the spokesperson, but they would all help if needed.

Johnny and Roy entered the station talking and laughing, and never noticed the way the rest of the guys were skulking around. Once they were in front of their lockers getting changed, the other four all entered.
"Uh... Johnny..." Chet started.
"What Chet?" Johnny answered impatiently.
"Look up."
"Chet... I am not in the mood for any of your tricks today."
"It's almost Christmas. Can't you lay off him just for once?" Roy added, jumping to Johnny's defense.
"No tricks man... Just look up."
"No."
"I really think you should do what Chet says," Marco added, lending his support.
"Why should we?" Johnny answered.
"Just look up and you'll see," Chet said pleadingly.
They all watched as Roy and Johnny both looked up and spotted the Mistletoe hanging from the ceiling. Both men looked very nervous at the discovery.
"You know what you have to do," Chet urged delightedly.
Johnny turned quite pale.
"I... I... I am not kissing Roy," Johnny stammered. //Oh god... I can't do this. Roy will find out how I feel and I will lose my best friend.//
Roy looked to be equally as nervous.
"I agree... I am not kissing Johnny," Roy also stated. //I can't let Johnny know how much I really want this. He would no longer want to be my friend and I can't live without him.//
"That's where you are wrong," The Captain put in his two cents worth. When they were both looking at him, he continued. "You are standing under the Mistletoe, therefore you are required to kiss." He saw that they were about to argue some more so he got in first. "I can make that an order if you want."
Johnny and Roy looked at all four men, looking for and ally, but realized they were all sticking together. They couldn't look at each other, as they were scared. Just as Johnny was psyching himself up to give Roy a quick peck on the cheek, Chet started speaking again.
"No cheating. It has to be a proper kiss. Open mouths and tongue," Chet informed them cheerfully. All four men had their fingers crossed that this would work. They hoped that it wouldn't backfire on them and cause trouble between the two paramedics.

Both Johnny and Roy came to the conclusion that there was no way that they could avoid it. They were going to have to kiss and hope that they didn't give themselves away. Still without looking at each other, they moved closer. At the first touch of their lips, a feeling like an electrical charge surged through them both and they instinctively deepened the kiss. Mouths were opened, and when their tongues met, both men groaned. Arms came up around each other, and they pressed closer as everything except the kiss was forgotten. They had forgotten that there were other people in the room, and their own fears had rushed away from them. All they knew was that they wanted more. They pressed even closer together and could feel their erections being pushed together between their bodies. The klaxon could have sounded and they would not have heard it.

Chet, Marco, Mike and Hank had cheered when they first started kissing, but realized rather quickly that they had been forgotten. Their plan had worked even better than they had expected, but they had to end this for the moment as there was work to be done. The Captain tried to get their attention, but they were oblivious. He mumbled under his breath that they needed hosing down, not realizing that Mike had heard. The next thing they all heard was the scream as icy cold water hit Johnny and Roy. They all turned to see Mike standing there grinning while holding one of their many hoses.

The cold water was a shock to both Johnny and Roy. They were suddenly returned to the present and remembered where they were. Johnny blushed and tried to pull away, but Roy wouldn't let go. He quickly gave up and snuggled closer to Roy.
"What was the hose for?" Roy asked.
"I'm a fireman and I put out fires... I was just doing my job," Mike answered innocently with a huge grin on his face.
The others laughed at this, and then turned their attention back to the wet couple.
"Well, it is obvious that our plan has worked, but we do need to get some work done around here," the Captain said. "I hope you two are not going to be so blind in the future as to how you really feel about each other?"
The question was rhetorical and so did not require an answer. "Hurry up and get changed... Roll call in five minutes."

As the others left the room, Roy looked at Johnny for the first time since they had discovered the Mistletoe. He couldn't believe how much love he could see shining from Johnny's eyes.
"I think we have a lot to talk about tomorrow after our shift. I love you Johnny... so very, very much."
"I love you too Roy."
They kissed gently to seal their pledge of love, before reluctantly breaking apart to prepare for work. It was going to be a very long shift!
