Zeb Mountain is an integral part of the Cumberland Mountains with some
of the most biologically diverse forests on earth including many endangered
land & aquatic species.
Resources:
Abundant fishing, hunting, hiking & camping opportunities
Scenic beauty central to Appalachia’s natural & cultural
heritage
A strip mine using a new method called mountaintop removal or “Cross
Ridge Mining” is proposed in Scott & Cambell Counties, 40
minutes from Knoxville. It would devour 3 peaks of Zeb Mountain (2107
acres) and bury biologically crucial streams.
Robert Clear Coal Corporation has a permit effective June 30, 2003
for Area # 9, Zeb Mountain. Robert Clear Coal Corporation’s long
list of violations jeopardizes community safety, water quality and habitat.
The outdated environmental assessment (on an area over 2 miles away)
fails to protect natural resources.
This is just the first strike; permits for other mountain top removal
mines along the entire Cumberland Plateau have already been filed with
the Office of Surface Mining.
Don’t let Robert Clear Coal Corporation trade your heritage for
40 temporary jobs!
