Welcome to our pages on Ösmo in Sweden, the place where we used to live. This is a small town, part of the Nynäshamn Kommun, located 11km from the actual town of Nynäshamn. Ösmo is on the main commuter line to Stockholm, the journey takes around 50 minutes. The town is surrounded by forest, and has it's own lake called Muskan which is a beautiful place to explore, by foot, cycle or by boat. If you walk around the lake, it takes around 3 hours. You will see so much wildlife, particularly wild flowers, mushrooms, berries, small reptiles such as snakes and frogs, butterflies, insects and birds.
It's a little more tricky to navigate however with a metre of snow or more beneath you. More of our photos from around Muskan can be seen on the Muskan Page. The lake is also a good place to fish, although it is frozen solid at times. On the way around the lake, you will see a few islands in the middle, which you can easily reach by boat (or swim maybe). The largest island is called Storholmen (which means big islet) and Mariaholmen.
Further along you will come to a reconstruction of a iron age house and outdoor forge. This has only been here a few years, you can peak inside, it doesn't cost you. There's also a huge 27 hole golf course (Körunda), if you like that kind of thing.
Ösmo church is also worth seeing, the oldest part of the church was built in the late 1100s and modernised during the 14th century. It's present exterior is from the 15th century. The inside is adorned with lime-colour paintings from the mid 15th century by Peter Målare (Peter the Painter) and his student Albertus Pictor, the most celebrated church painter of the Middle Ages (known for humourous paintings such as a pig playing the organ). The Swedish author August Strindberg also gave trial sermons here in the 19th century.

Apart from that, Ösmo has a small centre with an ICA supermarket/post office, a discount store selling all types of things, a bank (Handelsbanken), a restaurant/kiosk, another Pizza restaurant/pub, a small library, hairdresser, and a swimming pool and sports centre, as well as a school. This is also the place where all the buses stop, and you can go to the petrol station to fill up. The centre has recently been re-landscaped, with some very nice flowers and shrubs, and a small play area has been installed for the children, as well as a place to play "Boules" for the adults. There are some benches to sit on and soak up the sun during the warmer months. The train station is just a few minutes away. The houses and appartment blocks are a variety of old and new, some interesting to look at, others look more like a prison. Our former apartment overlooked Ösmo Football club (hehe). They cut the grass every day, which was a little annoying, except in the winter, when it is covered in snow. There are certainly more exciting places to live, which is why we moved to Nynäshamn.
