TERMONOLOGY

• backdoor - the situation when a surfer pulls into an already pitching barrel
• barrel - the breaking motion of a wave. same as tube or pipe.
• bomb - a big wave that turns up out of the blue
• bodyboard - shark bait!!
• closeout - when a wave breaks simultaneously across the whole beach
• cranking - when the surf is awesome
• drop-in - to paddle and then catch a wave that someone else is already riding. Very bad manners.
• floater - when the rider rides over the falling curtain of a breaking wave
• glassy - when there is no wind and the waves look like glass.
• goofy foot - Someone who stands on their surfboard with their right foot forward.
• natural foot - Someone who stands on their surfboard with their left foot forward.
• offshore - when the wind blows from the land out to sea. This wind will produce the best waves.
• onshore - when the wind is from behind the waves
• peak - the part of the wave that breaks first
