Diamonds and Pearls
Released Oct 1st, 1991
High Level Review
Marking a return to a "blacker" sound, Prince incorporates a jazzy, gospel feel in many of the songs here. It is a very confident, mature, and accessible work.
Lyrics
With no real underlying theme, this album contains his most explicit lyrics in years, touches on social issues and a new theme: "Live 4 Love" -- the value of positive thinking.
Many think Prince is at his best when he's not constrained by a theme.
