Dirty Mind
Released Oct 8th 1980
High Level Review
Radically different than his previous two albums, Dirty Mind is funk/rock oriented, and for the time, the lyrics are nasty.
Lyrics
Here Prince introduces the concept of "Uptown", his idea of Utopia, where everyone can be free from social restrictions. In open rebellion, he sings explicitly about sex: in cars, with a bride, with his sister, wherever.
Singles
- Uptown (5 R&B)
- Dirty Mind (65 R&B)
Tour
Headlined a tour of small venues in the states, and had several dates in Europe as well.
In Oct '81, The Rolling Stones asked him to open for them, and he was booed from the stage.
The Critics
They loved both the album and the tour.
Notes
Managed by Cavallo and Rufallo.
