Departed - the passed, the gone, the unforgiven. The rock quartet with raw emotion
pushing through the barriers of the processed music of today. Since late 2001, Departed
has been tearing up the county of Ventura, CA with the likes of
Odium,
Brothers from another Planet, and more.
"We just want to rock your mom" says drummer Donny Deever when asked what is the goal of
this project. "We want to create something original and innovative - not cash in on whats
going on." Jeff Miller, the vocalist and guitarist says it took over 2 years and 7 lineup
changes to find the right combination. "You have to have an enviroment of respect, or else
you're never going to get anywhere. Everyone has to have the drive and the will for the
band to sucseed."
How did this combination come to be? Well, at first Jeff Miller was teamed up with Daniel
Chase, a drummer from right here in Ventura, CA. When trying to find a replacement bassist,
he stumbled upon Joe Hofer's Musician.com listing of 7-String Guitarist. Once met, they
agreed to check out an Oxnard bassist, Matt Mayeda - the promotion machine. He stuck.
We went into Elevation Studios in Ventura, CA to record our first 4 track demo. Ron Baldwin
as our producer kicked some ass. It came out great - yet we weren't done. Jeff Kaiser, a
trumpet player who also owns a studio, mastered our tracks and now we have what is on the
site.
However, the band didn't rest. A month after the demo was released, we parted ways with
long time original drummer Daniel Chase. To come in was Donny Deever - one of the most
insightful people I know.
So what now? Well, for one we're playing as many bills as we can get on. Check out the shows
page. We're also going to be recording more material in December.
