On this page I will show you how the video game companies have fought it out in the past in the console wars of the past.
The first Console War: the 8-bit systems.
Contenders:
Nintendo Entertainment system (aka in japan: Famicom)
Sega Master System
Winner: Nintendo Entertainment System
During this console war, the sega master system didn't even get close to winning, nintendo had a great edge in 3rd party support. Sega learned from this and came back to fight nintendo again.
The second console wars: 16-bit systems
Contenders:
Sega Genesis(aka in japan and europe: Megadrive)
Super Nintendo (aka in japan: Super Famicom)
Atari Jaguar
3DO
Winner: Tie between Genesis and SNES
Notes:
First of all, the Atari and 3DO had no chance. Atari claimed to have 64 bits, but It didnt live up to that. It was a flop but still sold a few. 3DO on the other hand did completely nothing with their 32 bit system and sold almost nothing (with an intro proce of $700, would YOU buy it?.
The third console wars: 32 and 64 bit systems
The Contenders:
Sega Saturn
Sony Playstation
Nintendo 64

In the beginning these three were making a great battle but the closeness of that battle soon ended. First of all, Nintendo 64 ended up being really bad, sticking to cartridges and to there "quality over quantity" saying. 3rd party developers hated this system because of how hard it was to make games for this and after a while, the 3rd party developers just quit making games and all that was left was nintendo and rare. Sega never really got any 3rd party help and were still suffering from the sega cd/32X thing they tried. Sony showed up for the first time making gmae machines and blew everyone away. they used the CD and made it easy to make games. they got loads of 3rd party support and quickly earned a huge amount of fans.
The fourth Console Wars: 128 bit systems
Contenders:
Sega Dreamcast
Sony Playstation 2
Nintendo Gamecube
Nuon
Indrema L600
Microsoft Xbox

Sega released their console first and got a head start on everyone else. but sony quickly followed and brought a better looking system that could beat it out. Nintendo's new system looks to do as good as either of those while plans for that still aren't permanent. Xbox has a chance at winning this thing because they will be the last ones to come out with their console unless Indrema tries to do that. Indrema and Nuon are not getting very much confidence from anyone right now and might take a nose dive once this thing starts. Also sega already is making plans to end its dreamcast which will take it out of this fight. My prediction is that Xbox and PS2 will fight it out all the way and nintendo will follow closely behind.
