Slowly she walked through the dock as she watched
him. He stood on the deck waiting for his
passenger to arrive. She slowly began to walk up the plank as she looks
down the the waters below marveling at the kaleidoscope of
colors within it. She then looks to the man standing
on the deck and moved slowly toward him. As she reach his side he spoke
softly.."I'm glad you made it, thought you might have
reconsidered." She looked to him silently
and sighed answering...why would I do that? She looked at him once
more silently and sighed then she began to move about the
deck looking around. After a few moments he spoke
once more..."You never know" ... he said as he offered his hand... "come
I'll show you to your chambers." ...she around the
deck to all the things that had been brought on board the
ship by the crew of men working around the ship and seeing this he
explained...."mostly trade goods and such" she glanced back to
him and walked toward him yet
she did not take his hand just watched him silently. He started for the
cabin door and said.."It's this way" as he walked to a hatch,
opening it. Then he started down the stairs
into the deck below.
She watched as he moved to the hatch on the deck
and walked to it slowly then followed him down
the stairs. She held onto the side as she moved down into the bottom deck
quietly, her heart racing as she moved. As they walked along the
passage way she glanced around as
they moved past a few doors and finally, he opened one to the right,
looking toward her. He smiled and said "this is your room,
one of the best on the ship." She nods and
looked into the room silently. There was a large feather bed in the center
of the room. The decor about the room was simple but nice and
she smiled slightly. She looked around the room
silently and then looked to him.. "So what do we do now? she asked softly
as she stood there watching him quietly. In a
matter of fact tone he simply answered.. "So.. now we set
off and find your home" as if it was the simplest of things to do.
She stood silently watching
him trying to figure out why he wanted to help her and what his
motivations for doing so were. She looked to the bed and sighed as
she walked to it and ran her hand along the
covers feeling the softness upon her fingers and then smiled slowly.
She looked to him and
smiled..."this is a nice room ..thanks. He smiled and spoke softly
as he watched her "I usually reserve this room for nobles but I
like you." and with that said he moved out of
the room and headed up to the deck. He than began readying his ship
to cast off. She had watched as he left and sighed
standing there alone she thought of her life and closed
her eyes thinking of the life she had had so far and then she moved out of
the room and headed for the stairs for she didn't like
being down here alone. The walls felt like they were
closing in as if trapping her.
She moved up the stairs and breathed in deep as
she reached the deck. She watched as the men
worked doing various thing as the ship got underway. Some men untie
the ropes as Artimus Lightbender headed for the wheel. He then
slowly began to steer the ship away from port
as she walked to the front of the ship and sat away from every one out of
their way. Artimus watched her and handed the
wheel to one of the men then he slid down a rope...landing behind her. She looked out into the sea and
smiled silently as he did so. Suddenly out of no where she heard his voice behind her
and she jumped as he spoke "looking
forward to seeing home?" he asked softly. She turned and
looked to him silently and whispered .. "yes...I suppose I
am... As she looked back out over the waters he turned into the sun and said.."we sail into the sun
seeking it out....how many days travel is it, do
you remember? SHe thought about those days as they had left the island so
long ago and tears came to her eyes ..."I 'm not sure
...I don't remember much I was sort of in a daze ...I
guess.. and they didn't let me come up here..much...he slowly placed his
hands on her shoulders and smiled softly ..."we'll find it,
I promised"...As she felt his hand on her shoulders
she shivered and simply answered.."alright."
She looked to him silently and slowly moved away
from his touch..."thank you ..she whispered
nervously as if his touch had reminded her of days long past. She then
turned to look back over the waters as the waves came
past the ship. He leaned on the rail looking at her
and with a slight crease in his brow spoke slowly... "It's a pleasure to
serve one such as yourself ...no thanks are needed."
She looked to him slowly as a look of confusion set
into her face and she wonder what he had meant by such as herself yet she
said nothing and continued to look out over the sea
silently. She turned to him as those words resounded
in her mind as asked him what he meant by one as herself and he looked to
her and smiled....."nevermind, we'll speak of it
later" then he turned and walked away to check the
ship as he wondered to him self if she knew who he is or what he once did
in the name of gold. She looked to him silently as he
moved away and she turned back to face the wind as it brushed its fingers along her face..she looked
out to the dark blue sea as the sun began
to set. Artimus with his own thoughts haunting him looked silently
out to sea remembering his past sins and softly whispers to
himself "redemption isn't easy." his heart
pounding in his chest as he remembered.
She looked out to the sunset as the colors took
shape in the sky and he watched her from the
distance silently. She looked to the sky and wondered what he would
think of her past and
sighed silently as it had not been a pretty one with all the things that
had happened in her life up to now. She looked down into the
dark waters and thoughts of ending her life entered
upon it. He watched as her features changed upon her gentle sad face
and he walked over to her and softly asked..."do you know
the name of the ship that attacked your home?...As heard his voice she griped the railing remembering
the men of the long ago journey
away from her home as almost silently whispered .."Maritine, I think
they called it."she didn't turn just spoke the name as she had
heard it so often over and over in her head.
He then proceeded to tell her of his past. "Many years ago Karnemore
called together all of the pirates to fight in a great
war, a war for a country that was already lost the
Maritine was among the fleet. As she listened looked out to sea
silently and shuddered..."Were you on that ship? she asked
slowly looking to him ...as he continued to tell his
story..It served well, when the war ended the surviving ships went their
separate ways...and then he paused and answered her almost
silenly.."no I served on the Royal Spray."
A sighed of relief came to her lips as she watched the sea
listening. as he continued.."they began making up for the time
they'd lost fighting in the war..robbing any ship or island they found.
My ship was attacked by the royal navy because of
this, it was crippled in the water.. as he spoke she
listened and the thoughts started coming to her mind the faces, the blood,
the men, her mother and unable to continue listening
to the deeds of those reached men she cried
out..."Stop !" as he was speaking .."We're linked by fate, I was one of
those who gathered the crews for the war, and as she
startled him he looked to her and spoke ..."I'll stop
though. She turned to him silently as the tears slowly fell from her
eyes whispering ...." I" ...she shook head ..."no go on I'm sorry
...and he softly continued his tale of the past. "when my ship was lost I stormed this one, many of the
crew members once served the royal
navy, only 3 ships survived after the war. She looked to him
silently asking ...What ships
were those? |
