14.Silent Hill-Konami's attempt at cashing in on the survival horror craze. Unlike Resident Evil which was more action oriented, Silent Hill pits the player in the shoes of a helpless man who is looking for his daughter. The real-time 3D engine allows for limited viewing of what the player can see, add to that a truly dark and macabre world filled with all sorts of crazy things, and Silent Hill is more of a pyschological terror.
13.Resident Evil 3 Nemesis-Capcom can live off their Resident Evil series alone and produce mediocre sequals(Like Tomb Raider), but they insist to make every title special. Join Jill Valentine and her quest to escape from Racoon City and meet the hunky Nemesis. It definetaly has more action than all the others and has by far the coolest bonus game: The Mecenaries.
12.Vagrant Story-Another Square, you better believe. The game was called by Mix "The Medevil Metal Gear Solid". You play the role of Ashley Riot a Riskbreaker whose quest is to find the king of Lea Monde's son. What may seem to be a dungeoun crawler turns into much more with its' deep weapon management. Graphically it has a comic book style reminiscent of Yoshitaka Amano's Sandman.
11.Wipeout XL-The first Wipeout was an amazement since it featured fast speed and wild physics. Top techno artist Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Fluke lend all there mixes to the game. It still also matches up to most modern PS One games in terms of looks. Highly recommended.
10.Tekken 3-All the Tekken games are good, and the third may have been the least original, but who cares. With the exception of Namco's other jewel Soul Calibur, the Tekken games remain to be the king of the hill for 3D fighters. Also Namco prooved that they could magically make the transition of the arcade version to home a smooth one.
9.Final Fantasy IX-What do you get when you make a FF old school style? The latest FF masterpiece thats what. We loved FF VIII as well, but we decided to go with FF IX instead, it had so many factors going for it. Not to mention the intro of the greatest role playing game character ever; Vivi. Everything about this game was great, its like as if Disney and Sqaure merged to make one magical journey.
8.Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2-We are not putting this game here because every other magazine mentioned it and hyped it to death, but we really did waste away many nights to nothing while playing this game. The coolest thing of this game is its' simple concept. Try and score as much as you can within the designated time frame. The combination of the fluid controls and huge arsenal of tricks means you can pull whatever you want to off. You only limited to where your imagination can take you.....ok so maybe that sounds corny, but I felt like saying that.
7.Ape Escape-Again just because the media may say all the good of this one, we are entitled to our own opinions, and we really did have a great time playing Ape Escape. It used the Dual Shock controller in new ways, you can bend, flick, twist, jump on and do whatever you want to, to use the many cool gadgets Spike has. Cool objective as well, by having to capture the loose monkies, it meant more than just a straight-forward romp from level to level.
6.Resident Evil 2-Betcha you were kinda 'fraid to play tis one. You can pick either Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield's sister or Leon Kennedy, a rookie Racoon City police officer. Again you try and survive to find other souls who may still be alive and along the walk in the city you meet up with the occasional baddie. There were many times when we jumped out of our seats because we were shocked by a zombie just suddenly coming alive or when a licker would crash through a dark mirror. Aww, and who can forget about the adrenaline battle with the Tyrant at the end. One hell(No pun intended) of a action game.
