What is a BUILDING DESIGNER?
The term "Building Designer" aptly describes
who we are and what we do, by differentiating between the time-honoured image of the "draftsman" and
that of the self-employed, principal of a design business.
A "draftsman" draws up other people's ideas.
A "building designer"
is able to design all aspects of a building in terms of social and economic needs as well as taking into account
the creative and technical aspects.
Our members for the most part are people who can be described
in this way.
Designers value each client as an individual with special needs and values.
They turn the clients requirements into a unique, workable and economically viable design.
Designers consider such things as the total environment, the work place, the living environment, the cost, the
site, passive solar energy principles, people's homes, their life styles, and generally - the quality of life.
What is the BDAQ?
The Building Designers' Association of QId Inc (BDAQ)
represents an active group of building designers who are keen to uphold their responsibilities to the consumer
and to the profession, promoting the dignity and reputation of the profession with perseverance, tact and impartiality
whilst attaining the highest standards for the community.
The Association was formed in 1990 to give recognition to
a profession of critical importance to the building industry. Its formation in the industry had long been overdue,
a fact which was reinforced by the huge rush for membership.
Membership, encompassing 11 branches throughout Queensland, stands at over 400.
The branches represent building design firms operating from far North Queensland south to the Queensland border.
MEMBERSHIP of the BDAQ
Membership is drawn from all sections of the Construction
Industry.
Student and affiliate membership includes Drafters, Builders, Interior Designers, Project Managers and Sub-Contractors.
Full members are Building Designers who are principals of
a full-time design business who satisfy the requirements of experience and qualifications as set down by the Association.
