Even though we live in the south, we get
some cold weather and the plants must
come inside for the winter. We keep plant
lights burning 24 hours a day so they
get artifical sunlight. We've got plants
sitting everywhere!
And
then we've got
them hanging.
We've got
BIG
plants
We've got
small
ones
We've got a lot of "aloe vera". It's
good to have for
healing, especially burns, and it needs
very little
care.
I can't claim this next aloe vera, but
it's just too beautiful not to include.
It belongs to a co-worker named Rachel
and sits near a window where I work.
The Beautiful Amaryllis
This is our Amaryllis that we planted
six weeks ago. They are not only
beautiful, but are fascinating to watch
as you can almost see them opening up
into bloom.
The plant originally comes from the
Andes Mountains of Peru and Chile
and is named for a godess of Greek
mythology. The word actually means
"sparkling" which certainly fits this
flower.
This plant can be grown inside or
outside when the season permits. We like
to grow them inside in the winter to add
a little color to all the rest of the
plants. After they bloom and replenish
themselves, the bulbs can be stored in a
cool place for about 2 months and then
planted again. We have several and we
rotate them so we have one in bloom most
of the winter. They are really easy to
grow and need very little care.

These flowers come in a
great variety of colors and can be grown
to match the
holidays if you like--red for
Valentines, white for Easter, pink for
Mothers Day- or just grow your
favorites. Some plants have only one
trumpet, and some as many as four. This
is a truly beautiful plant!

Now lets move on to Poo's Back Yard
or we can go to Marie's Little
Spot and see some beautiful flowers.
