American
Romanticism Web Quest: |
Teacher's Page
I am the media specialist at Oconee Christian Academy. I also teach one class of American Literature for 11th grade, and sponsor the yearbook.
I created this web quest as part of an assignment for Education 195: Integrating Technology into the Curriculum. Teachers learn to integrate digital technology into their existing curricula, focusing mainly on the American Memory collection of the Library of Congress. I fell that this web quest would be very helpful to any group of students studying American Romanticism. The American Memory collection contains thousands of pictures and documents that help students understand the time period.
This lesson was designed for an 11th grade American Literature class as part of an introduction to the period of American Romanticism. However, it could easily be adapted for younger or older age groups. Students will need to have access to a computer and internet service outside of class time. This will not be a problem for my class, since 100% have computers at home and 15 out of 16 have internet access. I will only have to make arrangements for the one student to use the computer lab or media center.
This web quest addresses the following South Carolina state standards:
E3-R1.3 Demonstrate the ability to apply integrated strategies to evaluate selections from a variety of literary genres and real-world texts.
E3-C1.1 Demonstrate the ability to use language, vocabulary, images, sensory details, and presentation techniques including multimedia that are appropriate for the purpose and audience
E3-C1.4 Demonstrate the ability to use effective organizational strategies, techniques, and methods including technology to develop oral presentations.
Time Frame
I chose to allow three days of class time for students to work on the project. I then decided to give them two weeks to finish it up and turn it in. Depending on the availability of computers and the age of your students, you may want to adjust the time frame.
You will also have to take into consideration whether or not your students know how to use Microsoft PowerPoint. If they do not, you will need to teach them how to use it in advance.
Thanks for visiting this web page. If you have any suggestions or questions, please email me.
