Services available

"We endeavour to provide services in order to enable individuals to have informed
choices so that they can make decisions about their own lives"


Information

  • Access to the specialised Resource Centre for all.

  • A free information pack is available on request.

  • Posters and up-to-date information are available in most community languages.

  • Information enquires are welcomed and treated as strictly confidential.



Support

  • Social, psychological and medical support is offered whenever possible to both affected individuals and their carers.

  • Access to a 24 hour answering machine.



Education

  • Education and training are offered to local community groups, primary health care staff, and those involved in educational establishments and anyone working in the community.

  • Awareness raising activities involving the community at risk.

  • The project has been developed as a specialised Resource Centre.



Screening and Counselling

  • The service aims to promote voluntary screening and offer genetic counselling to all those screened and found to be a healthy carrier of a trait or the disorder.

  • Referral from all sources are welcomed, as well as self-referrals.

  • Multi-lingual counselling material is also available.
