(NOTE: Because this is a repaint, this is not a full-blown review. This mainly covers any changes made to the mold and the color scheme, and merely compares it to Classics "Ultimate Battle" Optimus Prime. For a review on the mold itself, read the review of Classics "Ultimate Battle" Optimus Prime here.)
"Special Edition" Optimus
Prime here isn't very special. He's the "Ultimate Battle" release with
only a few minor weaks to the colors and paint apps. The blue is now a
bit darker and his gun is now partially blue, as far as the plastic colors
go. He also now has "tail-light" paint apps on his toes-- an improvement--
but the other paint apps on his legs are either gone (kneecap-headlights)
or simplified (the silver on his lower legs). The paint apps on his upper
body are the same as on his Ultimate Battle version.
No mold changes have
been made to Universe 2.0 "Special Edition" Optimus Prime.
Given that not only
is he barely different, but he's more expensive by $6 U.S., it's REALLY
hard to recommend Universe 2.0 Prime if you can at all find "Ultimate Battle"
Prime. And given that it's an iffy mold anyways, this one's only for hardcore
completists.
