Transformers Universe 2.0 (2008)

Even with Transformers Animated and the Transformers Movie toylines both on shelves in 2008-- both of them with highly unique, original aesthetics for our beloved brand-- a gap remained. Transformers were more popular than they had ever been since their heyday in the mid-'80s, but few, if any, "traditional"-styled Transformers decorated store shelves. To capture on nostalgia and to continue to satisfy fans of the traditional look, Hasbro rolled out with a second Transformers: Universe subline in the summer of 2008. This time consisting of its share of NEW molds in addition to repaints, Transformers: Universe kept much of the classic continuity of the original series while updating fan-favorite characters with new, modern toy molds. No mass-market fiction was given to the line, though some of the package bios fit together and Transformers.com put up the occasional "webisode".
As 2008 drew to a close and 2009 drew near, Hasbro made Transformers: Universe 2.0 a way to celebrate the 25th anniversary for Transformers. In addition to a silver "25th Anniversary" shiny corner on each package, the line also focused more on all the past Transformers lines, instead of just the original series. The line stopped being available at mass retail in the late Spring in 2009 because of the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie and accompanying toyline, but it still made the occasional appearance via store exclusives.
Listed below are all of the transformable Transformers: Universe products (non-transformable sublines, such as Robot Heroes and Mighty Muggs, are not reviewed on this site due to their self-evident nature). Older toys repackaged in Universe packaging without any changes are not reviewed here, either. Because of the many exclusives and Legends-class figures for the line, those are listed seperately from the mainline figures. All are listed by alphabetical order.
(NOTE: The Superion & Bruticus Maximus giftsets, released in Universe 2.0 packaging in countries such as Australia, are reviewed in the Revenge of the Fallen Toy Review section on this site due to their being released in that packaging in the U.S.)
