ohani's smile reappears at Marika's acceptance. "Excellent. If you'll just sign here," she says, pulling out a piece of paper and laying it down on the table in front of Marika, "we can be on our way once you're finished eating. The other three guards are readying the van." She hands a similar paper to Lynx as well, who waits to see what Marika does before he signs.

The paper boils down to this:

I, ___________ (contractee), hereby accept the terms offered by Madam Merchant Rohani(contracter) and will honor this contract for the minimum duration of two weeks, receiving in the end a minimum of 28 Marks, plus bonuses for protecting goods, members, and the vehicles themselves in this caravan.

___________(contractee)

[GM: Cultural note to Yune: Marika probably has a chop and red ink--you remember that gooky red ink stuff Mom showed us?--with which to stamp her name.]

Marika reads it several times over, straining her eyes for any sign of fine print. Her job is stealing and copying documents, not actually *interpreting* them.

Still, the only potential objection she can find is the two-week limit--she and Lynx might have to leave the caravan at any moment, depending on circumstances and leads. Although it might seem ludicrous for a spy and regular trespasser to dither over breaking a promise made in a few lines of ink, Marika has too often seen the trouble that can come about from entrusting something to paper.

She overcomes her apprehension and pulls out her chop and ink from her belt pouch. A quick, firm stamp in the proper place and she's sealed to this woman for the two long weeks to come. She looks up with a smile carefully affixed to her face and passes the paper to Lynx.
