Ariel had hoped that this time her move to Salem, Georgia would be different, but upon her arrival found herself in the painfully familiar place of being "the new girl" and having her shyness make it increasingly difficult to make friends and fit in. Plagued at night and even during class by familiar recurring nightmares, Ariel endured the present while hoping of a different future. Things started to look up when she encountered a young man her age named Perry Stodgmill. Clearly smitten and dared to hope. But that hope was destroyed when Ariel's father attacked her in her room that night. As much to Ariel's surprise as her father's they both found out the hard way that Ariel has the ability to summon, and then become, any creature from her nightmares. Through the creature she becomes, an horrifying revenge is unleashed upon her father. In the hopes of aiding Ariel, Perry's father had her hastened away to a paid military research group known as the Sentry, by whom he is employed. From the shadows, a third party, the mysterious Kauldron had set in motion a plan of his own, in which Ariel herself was an unwilling, unknowing, and integral part. But things turn bad as the experiments of the Sentry are causing Ariel to manifest into another of her devastating nightmare creatures. Believing that the Sentry is doing more worse than good, Perry and his father turn against them. But they are no match for the military's might. Enter War and Piece, two more mystical creatures who appear from nowhere to aid Ariel and her friends. They are guided by a mysterious bird, known as Sage. It has also been hinted that this bird is some type of manifestation of Ariel's mother, whom she has no knowledge of or memory. Through their help, Ariel and her friends are able to escape.
Not soon after escaping the Sentry, Kauldron makes his move to force Ariel to bring out her incredible powers. It is not exactly revealed to us what his motives, or final plans are. Ariel, having been pushed to her limits, releases the most feared creature she can conjure up, the incredible dragon Fang. Through Fang's incredible power, and one of Kauldron's minions betraying him in the final hour, Fang destroys Kauldron and almost everything else in his path. In this wave of destruction, tragically Perry's father is killed. This among all the other events that have transpired, drives a wedge between Ariel and Perry, and she is forced to flee the town. Ariel, accompanied by War, Piece, and Sage, now travels a lonely road in search of answers.
As the series continues, we'll find out about Ariel's unknown sister, whether the father she killed really was her father, and possibly the horrible origin of her incredible nightmare.
