Part 2- The Trip

Spike slowly blinked his eyes. God, how he hated dreaming. This time, he was in Paris, chasing a ripe youngling around the Eiffel tower. But the Slayer came, and not only did she knock him to the ground, but she kissed him. Then when she finally had gotten off of him, he saw Drusilla staring at him with a horrified expression. “No!” Spike had cried. “It’s not what it looked like, Pet!” But she didn’t listen. She just fled, right unto the Slayer’s stake. And Spike had watched his Black Goddess turn into a pile of dust.

Spike sat up at took a look at Dru, sincerely relieved that she was alright, and in peaceful slumber. He glanced outside at the bright sun and scowled. “Damn bloody sun.” He mumbled, his tummy adamantly growling. He glanced at the phone book, and began paging through it. If he had to be stuck in a damn motel all day, the least he could do was arrange some travel plans.

The easiest and quickest way to get out of the country would be to fly, but that wasn’t exactly safe for a vampire. Spike guessed that him and Dru’s best bet would be to travel by boat. Spike emptied his pockets. Yeah, he was a little, short on cash. No matter, he’d take Dru out tonight and let her kill a classy man in a business suit. Those business types were pretty reliable when it came to stuffed wallets.

Spike was in luck. After making a few calls, he found out there was a cargo ship headed for Brazil in less than 36 hours. The sooner they got out of the country, the better off they’d be.

About an hour before sunset, Drusilla began to stir. Spike watched her flicker her beautiful eyelids and yawn. She must have an intense dream too, because her face was fully vamped. Drusilla yawned once more, and rolled over on her side. She looked over at Spike, expressionless. “Spoike .. “ She moaned softly.

“Were you dreaming, Pet?” He said softly, hoping she’d tell him all about it. Like the good old days.

“Yess. .. Oi was ‘unting .. caught me a noice li’l girl . .but when I came ‘ome, you were with the Slayer. She was in Moi bed. With Moi dollie. An’ you were kissin’ ‘er.” Spike snapped his head back and gulped with guilt and nervousness.

“Dru, daddy loves his Princess. You know that. With the Slayer, that didn’t mean anything. I was thinkin’ of you the whole time.” Dru rolled over onto her other side in silence. Spike rubbed his chin. She was so unpredictable. Well, he was used to that about her, in fact that’s one of the reasons he loved her, but, usually her unpredictability didn’t have anything to do with the way she treated him. And she was scaring him. He couldn’t loose her. He loved her. Spike cleared his throat.

“Now then, tonight we find ourselves some money, and then there’s a cargo ship leavin’ during the day. We’ll ‘ave to hide away before sunrise.” Dru didn’t turn her head to look at him, but she shuddered.

“Spoike .. Oi don’t loike boats. Me’ mum neva’ let me swim.” Dru giggled. “The fishies will eat us all up! Bad fishies they are . . mm . .” Spike smiled despite himself. There was the Dru he knew and loved.

“Pet, the fishies won’t get a chance to come near us. We’ll be safe the whole time.”

“But, the boat will rock, it will. Moi tummy won’t loike it. It’ll say ‘blah.’ Oi don’t want an’ achin’ tummy, Spoike.” Spike sighed, and took the chance to sit up on the bed.

“We’ll fill our tummies good tonight, Pet. The boat won’t ‘urt them.” Dru shifted her weight, and even though she didn’t turn to look at him, Spike took that as a sign of consent. He smiled to himself, and glanced out the window again. Ah, finally! The sun was starting to set! “Dru, are you almost ready, luv?” He whispered. She glanced behind her, but only to look out the window.

“Wait ‘till the moon is all the way up.” She grinned like a little child. “Then it will whisper to me .. . “ Dru giggled. Spike chuckled along with her.

The two vampires patiently waited until the night completely overtook the sky. Spike turned to Dru. “Alright, luv. We should get going.” Dru lifted her chin. Spike licked his lips. When a vampire skips a day of feeding, it tends to make them a little bloodthirsty. And right now Spike was Dying for a good kill, for more reasons than one.

Spike and Dru left the motel and climbed into Spike’s car. “Luv, keep your eyes peeled for a good prospect.” Spike told her. “We’ll take the side roads.” Dru remained silent. Spike frowned slightly, but told himself silently not to take Dru to heart. She went through just as much humiliation as he did, and neither of them had their emotions properly sorted out yet. Time is the only thing that would make things better now.

Drusilla lazily ran her nails across her palms as Spike drove. She inwardly giggled. It tickled.. it did. She wondered what else tickled. Suddenly, she sensed someone, and she shot her gaze forward. Mm .. she could smell fresh blood .. “Spoike .. stop.” She said.

Spike looked over at Dru, and eased his foot on the brake. “What is it, Pet?”

“A person. Ahead.” Spike squinted, but still didn’t see anyone. Dru pointed by the bushes. “There. . “ Spike still didn’t see anything, but he stopped the car just to amuse her. Drusilla suddenly flung open the door and leapt out of the car.

“DRU!” Spike called out, but she ignored his call and raced ahead. She reached into he bushes, and pulled out a young teenage boy that Spike didn’t even sense was there. “How does she do that?” Spike muttered to himself. He straightened up in his seat and opened his door, casually stepping out. Well, at least Dru had found some food for him! He was about to come forward for the kill when Dru suddenly vamped out and sunk her own teeth into the boy’s tender neck. The boy’s eyes bulged with terror and he gargled, but then quickly dulled as his pupils glazed over in death. Drusilla dropped him like a sack of potatoes. Spike cleared his throat.

“Um, Pet, I ‘aven’t eaten for nearly two days now.” He calmly reminded her. Drusilla lowered her head a bit, but grinned maliciously.

“Sorry .. “ she mumbled, but giggled softly. Spike rolled his eyes, and took another look around in the darkness. He walked over to the body, which had a backpack on. Spike bent over and tore if off, unzipping it to look at the contents. He pulled out a few CDs, some clothes, and a wallet. “Looks like ‘e was runnin’ away.” He said to Dru.

“OO oo o . .” She cooed. “Good boys aren’t supposed to run away from their mummies!” Suddenly, a voice sounded in the distance. Spike and Dru both flung their heads up.

“Andy? Andy are you there?” Sounded a girl. Spike’s eyes brightened. Good, he was going to get a meal after all. He looked over at Dru, and smiled.

“Over here!” He called, in the best American accent he could. He heard footsteps rustling through some nearby bushes.

“Where?” She said again.

“Right here.” Spike answered. She suddenly came into view, holding a flashlight and shielding her eyes. She shined the flashlight right at Dru, a gaping look of terror spreading rapidly across her face. Dru was still vamped. The girl gasped, and shined the light onto the dead body of her friend, then suddenly turned around and attempted to take off. Spike chuckled to himself; she didn’t stand a chance.

Spike leapt forward and grasped the girl by the waist. She shrieked loudly and dropped her flashlight, grasping desperately at Spike’s hands. She attempted to dig her shallow nails into Spike’s knuckles, but that didn’t even phase him. If he could endure Dru’s nails, this was nothing. He looked over at Dru hoping that she might lend a hand with this puny little fighter, but she just stood there laughing. She apparently found this quite amusing. Spike turned his full attention back to the girl.

“Now, if you ‘old still, I’ll make it quick.” The girl shrieked even louder, and Spike sighed with annoyance. He vamped out, and sloppily sunk his teeth into the back of her neck. She arched her back up harshly as he sucked, then went limp in his arms. He held onto her still, eagerly letting the fresh pulsating liquid flow into his dead veins. Oh, how good a feeding felt.

Spike finally un-plucked his teeth from the girl’s raw skin and let her drop down to the floor. She didn’t have a backpack. Spike wanted to turn to Dru and ask her why she didn’t him, but given the current tension already between the two of them, he thought better of it. “Shall we go, luv?” He asked her. Smiling, she sauntered over to the passenger side of the car and slid in. Spike followed suit.

Spike turned off his headlights as they approached the dock, obviously not wanting to be seen. “Now we ‘ave to be quiet, ducks. Can’t ‘ave any bloody humans catchin’ us now, can we?” Drusilla gave him an odd look.

“What if they did? We could ‘ave a lovely li’l tea party!” She exclaimed, clapping her hands. She got that far-off look in her eyes again. “We could ‘ave scones. . an’ brandies pears .. loike Li’l Ann used to eat . .an’ lemons .. “ Spike climbed out of the car, silently encouraging Dru to do the same. She giggled softly, but climbed out of the car. Spike glanced over at her, and crept to the side of the dock. There were several workmen around, loading crates unto the ship.

Dru followed behind him, creeping on the very tips of her toes. She glanced at Spike. “Spoike .. what are they loadin’? She whispered.

“Don’t know, Pet. Probably fruit or somethin’. He told her. She giggled.

“Berries . .an’ lemons .. me’ mummy ate lemons .. “She trailed off as Spike kept his intent gaze on the workmen. They finished loading one batch of crates, and then went back further on the shore to get the second load. Spike tensed up.

“Alright Pet, let’s go.” He said, and quietly rose to his feet. He glanced at Dru to make sure she was paying attention, and then he began to creep forward.

“OO o oo .. “ Dru started excitedly, but Spike quickly hushed her.

“Shh!” He said sharply, and Dru obediently closed her mouth. The two vampires crept unnoticed in the dark up to the cargo hole, and crawled inside. Spike lead Dru around to the back, and she wrinkled her nose.

“Spoike .. it smells funny .. “ She complained.

“Hush now, Luv. We’ve got to be quiet.” Dru pursed her lips and folded her arms across her chest, but she obeyed. They listened as men brought up another load of boxes and filled the rest of the cargo hole, and finally they closed the hatch. Spike sat down and leaned up against one of the boxes. “Might as well settle, Pet. We’re gonna be here a while.” Dru glanced at Spike, but chose to sit across from him instead of next to him. Spike rose his chin and was about to comment to her, but decided against it. He should give her time.

A few hours into the ride, Drusilla began to grab her stomach. “Spoike. . “ she complained. “Moi tummy’s achin’.” Spike glanced over at her as the boat continued to gently ease over the waves.

“Pet, just close your eyes and sit with the rhythm of the boat. You’ll be fine.” Spike took a closer look at Dru, and noticed that her face was especially pale. Not normal, vampire pale, but ghostly white pale. She opened her mouth again.

“Oi .. oi .. ‘ Suddenly, Dru pitched forward and wretched Red all over the dingy floor. Spike leapt up to avoid contact and ran to Dru. He tried to wrap his arms around her and lift her up, but she fought him. “No!” She shouted in his face. “Leave me! Oi don’t want you!” Spike stood back, slightly upset that in a moment of panic, she wouldn’t let him help her. Dru gripped stomach again. “OOo oo . . “ Spike wanted to leap forward and cradle his Princess, but he stopped himself. She wanted to handle this one on her own, then so be it.

Many hours later, the boat finally roared into shore. Both Vampires braced themselves for the jolt, stomachs growling and ornery. Drusilla glanced at Spike. “Is it noight-time?” She asked him, tilting her head. Spike raised his eyebrows.

“Y’know Luv, I honestly don’t know. I ‘ave no concept of time in ‘ere.” Spike and Dru crept further into the cargo hole, peering out through a cracks as the workmen opened the door. Spike darted backwards shielding his eyes, but then relaxed. “Oh good, the moon is out.” He whispered. “Dru, ready to go?” Dru smiled in the shadows, but her gaze was not on Spike. She was in her own little world again.

Drusilla and Spike waited for a bit until they were sure the workmen were finished, then they carefully crept out of the cargo hole and into the night. Drusilla walked straight on, in a new country and a new atmosphere, but seemingly sure of where she was going. Spike moved his legs fast to keep up, but Dru didn’t even glance behind her. It seemed like she didn’t even care if Spike caught up to her or not.
