Like all Jedi, Sith are taken at a young age away from their parents, but there are only two Sith at a given time.
Darth Maul doesn't remember anything about his earier life. All that he remembers is that Darth Sidious came and took him away from an ordinary life, a life that he would have hated.
The different colors on his eyes are what happened to him when he went to a planet with his master and was stung by little things called Dinkos. They have powerful venom. He saw one and it sprayed the venom into his eyes. He flinched and killed the Dinko. Later that day he went into his tent and found hundreds of the little Dinkos in his tent and they stung him, making him swell. That happened when he was young.
Later on he was sent to Tatooine to kill the Jedi and capture the Queen and force her to sign a treaty. He battled with Qui-Gon on Tatooine. He learned the way the Qui-Gon fought.
He went to the planet of Naboo and battled Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. He killed Qui-Gon, but he was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi.
