Ares was the son of Hera and Zeus and god of war. Though Olympians
were definitely not a peaceful people, they disliked Ares, who killed for
pleasure and incited men to warfare, then gloated over the battlefield.
He rode in his chariot drawn by his horses Terro, Flame, Fire and Trouble
with his sons, Deimos (Fear) and Phobos (also Terror), and his sister,
Eris, who shrieked with glee at the sight of the blood and conflict. Besides
them only two other gods were nice to him, Hades, whose kingdom was greatly
enlarged by the wars Ares started, and Aphrodite, who was fascinated by
violence and found him handsome in a brutal sort of way.
