Nyx is a daughter of Chaos and it's son, Erebus (darkness), and has
a gloomy and violent nature, though she has changes of mood. She is the
dark-robed goddess of night, sleep travels in her train and brings an
interval of rest to man's cares. She is depicted as a winged goddess and
she rides in a two-horse chariot drawing her dark mists across the sky.
She united with Erebus and gave birth to Ether (light), Hemera (day), Eris
(dispute), Nemesis (the goddess of vengeance) and a large family of spirits
(dreams, sleep, gossip, fraud, death). She was one of the most ancient
of goddess and it is said even Zeus held her in awe and feared to displease
her.
